Dear community.
We have to warn you about something really important. You noticed that weeks ago we published a video about our OpenGl modifications. They enhanced the whole game isn't it ?
Truth is, someone playing on a 64bits OS with Nvidia graphics doesn't support it. Worse, it gives to the game an awful render and we don't want to see that.
You both know that the OpenGL enhancement represents for us a great opportunity. It was a sort of proof. Ten years later, Homeworld2 can be upgraded. Can you believe that ? We believed only slow computers weren't able to run it but that's wrong. Both Nvidia users on 64Bits OS can't.
Deleting OpenGL ?
We weren't thinking about it... But time has come. We both know that Nvidia represents more than 50% of graphics production in the world. We don't want this number to represents the amount of people who will submit a ticket in our website, saying: "Why my game is awful as hell ?".
Therefore, the first release of Mass Effect Reborn (We will try to correct it for our other mods) won't use the OpenGL enhancements we've made. However we may add it as a "Bonus content". The later can be activated by the player itself before running the mod.
Differences between OpenGL and 2.0 shaders plus ALD ?
2.0 Shaders and Advanced Light Design enable our team to work with Bump mapping possibilities and advanced lighting possibilities. In that sense, we can force the game to look realistic but the bloom realism, made with OpenGL won't be preserved. Only our ALD shaders will force the game to have a sort of bloom.
It is a problem to upload two different versions? One with that upgrade and one without openGL?
We just plan to add an option in the setup itself like "AMD OpenGL Technology (Not recommended for Nvidia users).
Truth is AMD can easily work with 32Bits graphic drivers even on 64bits OS whereas Nvidia needs 64Bits drivers.
All i can say is haha Nvidia sucks :P
But seriously that is disapointing, perhaps you can make it an optional thing for those of us who have the ability to run it later down the track.
Does this mean that you will make texture with relief are now for MER?
then again, it's entirely possible that the homeworld 2 remake will feature an upgraded version of those?
I see, that explains it then. I was pretty annoyed when i first booted the mod (The launcher wasn't working properly, and I had to do a workaround with shortcuts) I knew it wasn't your fault, though. What's the next step then?
I have a 64-bit OS and an N-videa (GTX 660 Ti) graphics card.
From what you are saying I wont be able to enjoy this potentially great mod. I would like to try this mod first hand before I come to a conclusion. I have used other mods using shader 2.0 with no problems.
I have other games that use OpenGL and have no issues that I can see running them. I could try this mod and report back directly as I have also a decent build on my PC.
I also keep my drivers updated as they auto update to the latest Beta drivers. I do run Homeword in compatibility mode so this may help my situation. I could possibly try a few work arounds to see what can be done.
No you don't understand. It's not a Shader 2.0 technology that you can find in other mods. It's an OpenGL FORCED render coded by us from GD programmers and Nvidia doesn't support it.
We've got 5 testers at Phoenix Interactive who use Nvidia graphics on 64Bits and 32Bits OS and the results are significant: Nvidia can't support it.
And no, it's not about an Homeworld2 compatibility because the OpenGL Forced render remove both shaders from the game itself.
Not only 64-bit OS. Windows 7 32-bit too. (I'm testing on it) But deleting 3 files in \Bin\Release solved problem.
yeah same here, deleting the 3 files helped a lot.
Only last Nvidia graphics support the mod on 32Bits OS. Old graphic cards can't do it as well on 32Bits.
Nvidia cards have always been a bit touchy when running Homeworld 2 on 64 bit machines. My friend who uses Nvidia has so many problems that he can't even play Vanilla HW2.
Just upload two versions for now.
Coming from someone who uploads two different versions of a mod, it's not a very easy task to upload two different files.
