I can position the arms in any way possible. For display purposes i have the arms open, for game purposes i haven't decided yet.

ok I know some mods add moving parts as animations. If those tentacles are supposed to only be open for combat you could add them as an effect and have them change during combat?

Moving parts can only be done through a long and drawn out process using the particle system. The only real thing that is going to have animation is the Mass Effect relay. Sovereign will stay in the closed form in game.

That's pretty good for 8.5k, but you could probably reduce it with smooth groups, too.
