Welcome Modders and Mod users,

I'm trying to fix some of the "uglies" in ME1 and give it the polished look the epic story line deserves. So far I have updated/re-textured: Light and Shadow Maps on walls and floors, Kaidan, Tali, Garrus, Wrex, Liara, Saren, Benezia, Udina, Council, Anderson, Joker, Chakwas, Colonists, Scientists, Keepers, Normandy, Mako, many NPC clothings, Geth ship, volus, hanar, elcor, some armors and default character armors including N7 armor (of characters re-textured). This was Acheived by texture editing (up-scaling, re-painting, adding details, adding textures, adding bump maps, and rebuilding normal maps). Finally, but probably my favorite, I made a new Film Grain Texture to replace the muddy Film Grain with a much less obnoxious ME2 "looking" effect. Now you can keep film grain on and still have a crisp picture.

I've got just one problem : many microstutters when I run your mod. Graphic changes do not impact those stutters. Same thing with BIOengine changes. I use win8.1 which I suspect to be the cause of this problem. My setting : i7, 16Go, SLI 970.

I think the mod may just be stressing the ol'ME1 engine to it's limits. It depends on how sensitive you are to micro-stutter. I haven't experienced any game freezing stutter, just tiny hitches most likely as the textures load. I was able to minimize it by setting poolsize=2048

Performance has never been ME1's strong suit especially when it first came out, but I know there are zero stutters on today's hardware with the vanilla game, and I get slight stutter on my rig with the mod mainly on the Citadel. Through most of the game however, I honestly didn't notice any, but people may be more sensitive or there may be an issue I am not having. I will do some more testing and see if I can find any settings that may help.

Seriously, this texture pack is the best thing that's happened for this game. I especially like how you decided to roll back to the original texture for Sheploo instead of using the ME3 textures. That was the only gripe I had with the earlier version, but now it's pure gold.

On another note, have you thought about doing something similar for Mass Effect 2? Aren't almost all of the models in 2 ported from 1? I'm not very knowleadgable about this stuff, but that should make the job easier, no?

Regardless, thank you again. You and all the people who contributed to this project should be very proud!

God this is so god damn annoying. Everytime I patch in mission reports to the council (like after rescuing Liara) the game crashes with the error "rendering threat exception". I have created a fresh new ini and only changed the settings that were listed and I can't get around this issue.

It would be a shame to get rid of this mod simply because I can't progress past the second mission now and have to keep restarting.

You need to apply a LAA to MassEffect.exe and check the .ini for typos. Those are the only 2 reasons that will cause rendering thread exceptions. The mod is stable if installed and setup as stated in the readme. For more info see troubleshooting in the readme.

I replied to this yesterday and it must not have registered, weird. I fixed the issue with CFF explorer. It looked like the LAA patch wasn't working for me for some reason. I have a 64 bit OS as well so I didn't need the command prompt method either. But whatever the case, thanks for replying.

I have to say I don't have anything bad to say about this mod. It fixes the only downside of the original mass effect, that is that the textures looked quite low resolution, something I have often noticed (and disliked) when playing through the game. The amazing quality, a lot of painful hard work, and clearly a lot of dedication shown in the creation of this in my mind justifies a full 10 out of 10.
