The Team
Mare Nostrum is a modification for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 being developed by Sandstorm Productions, which formed in July 2006 upon the merger of the Burning Sands and Campagna Italiana mod teams. Since the union the team has gone from strength to strength and produced the first public beta version of Mare Nostrum in March 2008.

The Mod
Experience some of the fiercest battles of WWII across North Africa with Mare Nostrum [mah-re nohs-troom; Eng.] Building on the realistic, tactical game play that made Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 a fan favourite, Mare Nostrum lets players battle it out in an all new setting. Featuring British, Australian, German and Italian nations, choose from a range of authentic weaponry or crew one of 10 fully realised vehicles. With 8 different battle environments the game play is varied from gritty street to street fighting in urban surroundings to all out tank warfare in the open desert. This is North Africa, but not like you have seen it before.

  • All new theatre of war. North Africa in the Mediterranean theatre brings an exciting new setting to Red Orchestra.
  • 3 new nationalities featuring all new characters and voices including British, Australian and Italian soldiers.
  • 6 all new vehicles featuring British and German early war armour
  • Man 4 new Anti-Tank cannons to knock out approaching armour
  • Choose from 8 brand new authentic infantry weapons
  • 8 battle locations ranging from wide open deserts to urban settings

In the Press
Mare Nostrum has enjoyed wide ranging media exposure and was voted into the top 100 unreleased mods in the ModDB 2007 Mod of the Year awards. On the 17th October 2008, Mare Nostrum became the first third party game MOD to be made available through Steam.

Mare Nostrum has also been featured on Gamepsy, AMD GAME! and IGN.

The Mare Nostrum team are proud to announce the launch of the El-Alamein Mapping Contest.

There are two phases to the contest:
• Phase 1: Infantry maps to be submitted by 30th June in commemoration of the start of the first Battle of El-Alamein.
• Phase 2: Combined Arms/Tank Maps to be submitted by 26th July, the anniversary of the end of the first Battle of El-Alamein.

Rules are straight forward:
• No using other community created content without the creator’s permission.
• No remaking stock RO maps.

We would like to encourage any budding mappers to try to base their
maps on historical battles, but ultimately we’re just after seeing some
creative entries and innovative gameplay.

Prizes are to take inspiration from the now famous Summer Offensive
mapping contest from the Red Orchestra mod days. First and second place
will both get to choose a prize from a selection of WWII militaria. Our
competition winners as well as any other worthy entries will be offered
the support in order to become an official map for Mare Nostrum.

We are also pleased to announce some forthcoming content, which will be
in game ready for the mappers working on phase 2 to be able to
implement, test and balance their maps. (This list is subject to change)
