The Titanic Mod brings people at one of the most detailed and accurate free 3D recreations of the Titanic ever made. It puts the player in a whole new storyline for the game Mafia.
A bunch of new objects made and everything is ready to be positioned. I'm pleased to say that the mail hold is now finished!
How will these rooms be lit? It seems like there only are a few small lights on the walls, yet the room is lit bright, as in daytime. Is lighting your next task?
The renders used some kind of global lighting. I written a post in more detail here: Moddb.com
In mafia there will be lights positioned on the actual locations. This will make the lighting look a bit more dynamic and also creates a better atmosphere.
So these areas will be a whole lot darken and irregularly lit, or are you gonna bake the GI lighting into the textures? That's a bit of an oldschool method, but might work fine, here.
It will be slightly darker at some spots since ingame it's irregularly lit. At the moment there is no GI on the lightmaps for the area itself (floors, walls, ceiling), however, Djbozkosz is working on a new Mafia sandbox editor which includes Global Illumination for lightmaps. His preview screenshots looked great.
That sounds awesome. GI would also be interesting for the exteriors, since you have a lot of reflection from the ocean. And you could have animated day/ night cycles. I'm sure current computers can easily shoulder the load.
It's still cool without it, but if you have the options to get a big feature to work, why not?! :)
