I just hope the reply is favorable. But to tell you the truth i don't think it will, if they wanted to release the SDK they would have done that before and not wait for people to reverse engineer the game files and make a somewhat working 3rd party level editor.
The game industry has now completely changed, lawyers and CO's have their say in everything and they are there for the profit not for the enjoyment, look to id software one of the game teams most open to moding that released their SDK's at the same time has their games, after being bought has now encrypted their pack files (they were simple zip files before) locked their cmd svars (they were totally opened before) and ripped the in engine level editor from their game (in doom3 just bring the console and type editor).

I don't know, that's why I ask, I'll be never sure if I don't.
You might be right, but what's also a possibility, is just like the developers of the Pirates of the Caribean RPG game.

Mod creators tried to crack the game's sourcecode, but they didn't succeed. untill one just asked Ubisoft (If I'm right) if they could get the source code, and without any hassle, they gave the code to the mod creators.

besides, I can guess that the developers don't want to release an SDK as long as the game is new. but now it's almost a decade old, so there is nothing anyone could ever take profit of.
many games after mafia are way more advanced, and sometimes provided with SDK's aswell. People would prefer to use DX11 games as their resource rather than a DX7 (I believe) game.

It's also only the SDK I need, not the source code.

Description

It took a while before my letter was able to be sent. but here it is!
It will be mailed today, after that it will be waiting for them to answer. I'm very curious!

In this letter I ask 2K Czech (formerly Illusion Softworks) If I could obtain Mafia's original SDK tools to further develop this mod.

If they accept it, I'll be able to add much more quality to this project. adding things such as Dynamic lighting, custom animated objects, sector usage, dynamic sounds etc.

I know, I don't have a doctor's handwriting :P
