The L.U.R.K. team wants to provide the best possible experience from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, we don't plan to skew the scope of this game, because I, like many others, fell in love with the game because of the story, the realistic gameplay, and the atmosphere. I plan to preserve and improve on that concept to the best of my abilities, and our team has vowed to do so as well. Which is why we took it upon ourselves to provide that experience. We want to fulfill a niche that's otherwise unfulfilled in the modding community. We want to bring as many features to Stalker without damaging or changing the original theme of the game. While improving upon that concept with features that were dropped off the development cycle from GSC, such as stealth AI, and a strong foundation for balance, as well as dynamic A-Life, and an unprecedented visual presentation that no other Stalker Overhaul can touch.

Well, he's dead long before I reach his location and even using an old save he's dead and always in the same location, I just can't seem to save him. So how do I progress the story because even though I search his corpse I don't get his PDA to complete the quest.

This happens in alot of mods that change the a-life, sorry bro but you're probably just going to have to move on if at all possible, maybe cheat it to get the pda. This happened to me when I played Oblivion lost on alot of the NPC's (fucking professor kugov or whatever)

Or start a new game after editing \meshes\actors.. *.ogf, \config\gameplay\character_desc_*.xml, \config\models\capture\.. *.ltx, and \config\creatures\immunities.ltx to make Seriy/other important neutral stalkers invulnerable/very strong.

I can make up some detailed instructions if you want to try it.

What the hell are you talking about? just go to Agroprom or wherever you're supposed to go and the story picks off where it should.

Some people like to play the story to its fullest and not just jump to the end parts. I, for one, modified the game files so that the quest involving Guide could be completed properly, since he would always die from bandits at the beginning of the game.

doesn't matter if Guide is alive or not; Sid has the info, which Guide provides you with in Vanilla

people, please, please, read the forums and front-page, before making assumptions

the thing about "important" NPC's dying is one of the flavors of the mod; no one is "invinsible" in the Zone, Hell; I've even killed of Sid

The scope of the mod doesn't mention anything about changing the story/limiting the ways information can be found.

It's just couple of lines of un-voiced dialog! If you're playing stalker you should be used to shit not making any sense.

The mod shouldn't depend on players already knowing exactly what to do and when. Sure, modifying all the mechanics makes the game better, but it still comes down to progressing through the "plot" and ending up at one of a few conclusions. The worst part is that half the NPC's are dead before you can even attempt to help them.

If you put it like that then, yes. I must agree with you. I just never thought to look it from a new players perspective.
And also it does make the game rather annoying since so far the Guide, Fox, Seriy and the Major from the Railroad bridge have all been killed before I could get to them. Krugov was polite enough to wait for me to talk to him before dying.

The mod doesn't depend on that the game does. Welcome to STALKER: SoC.

I had a quicksave from the place where bes is, i ran to seriy and he was killed by the bandits. I loaded the quicksave about 5 times, and he was alive on that occasion. He then got shot in the face. So anyway, after about 30 tries i managed to have him alive. He'll probably die tomorrow anyway.
