Have you ever dreamt about playing the old, forgotten S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ?

We were amazed by GSC's work when they released the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. screenshots in 2002. The old design, and atmosphere was stunning and we couldn't believe our eyes. Later in 2005 things has changed. They redesigned almost all old levels. Some of them became smaller, simpler (still nice, but different), and some levels were removed. After the release in 2007 we played the game a lot, and quickly noticed that some areas are missing. We opened forums, and talked countless nights about those for almost a year. Nowdays we could say, we have a full vision about GSC's old levels, due to the collected materials, videos and forgotten screenshots. We decided to remake those stunning areas, maybe they won't be the same, but we will try everything to make them look really nice, as we always wanted to see them. In early 2009, GSC released a build from 2004, which contained many old materials. We used some of the sdk objects for the level remakes, but adjusted (and bugfixed) them for our liking, also we didn't throw out our own levels. So expect to see our own Darkscape, Dead City, Rostok Factory and some more in Lost Alpha :)

Also need to say, Lost Alpha addon is not just about levels and levels. We will try to make a somewhat, but not fully restricted alife, and deliver a lot of new, never seen features, among with some old ones, which many people wanted to see for long. If you are interested in, check the Features menu for FAQ, Interview, Features List, and many more. Also do not forget to check the gallery, and the movies. All comments are welcome, also we are glad to see suggestions too, however at this stage those won't be considered.
Thanks for your understanding!

Finally, we would like to thank to the old Stalker Team this wonderful game. Without them, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wouldn't be a "dream-game". Big respect to: Glory, Karma, Lex, Prof, Rainbow, Frodo, Dach, Koan, Mike, Jip, Jim, Jon, Yuriy, Terazoid, Tuz, Haron, Stohe, alexmx, chugai, Oles, Zmey, Iov, Sidorovich, CyLLlKA, dandy, Descruo, dima, Olga, LeSTAT, MadMax, Man0waR, Chapaev, Cy27-dw, Shyshkin, Narrator, Rolik, Atem, Yava, and many many more :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
from Dezowave

Christmas is knocking on our doors again, chestnuts roasting on open fires and Jack Frost nipping at our nose. Another year has passed by, which brought us many good things and some not so good. At this time of the year we all should celebrate and concentrate on all the good that happened to us in 2014! First of all, thanks to your votes, we are in the TOP100 again on MOTY Awards, there are still 3 days left, and then the finals will begin. We are pretty excited about the results, even though we weren't really advertising it, but a little news post can't hurt. We were the first for at least 4 months in a row, and in the top 5 for almost 6 months this year from April till September, which was amazing. We are really glad for the given support from you and the Moddb Staff! The launch wasn't smooth, Lost Alpha killed the moddb servers due to the heavy visits and downloads, and we even beat Black Mesa in downloads and view counts when Moddb Staff compared the statistics of the 'day of release' of these projects. It was unexpected, and we felt honored. Later things calmed down, and we think we are on a good path now to finish the game. Those who regularly visit our site already know of the changes through patches, etc... so if they -you- think we have earned it, to be in the top 5 again, we will be there! Everything depends on your choice.

And a little status update of the upcoming developers cut. Our programmers updated the audio/sound engine of the game, now you can select all your sound cards from the list, and eax finally works, mainly on sound blaster cards, even the integrated sound chipsets which supports eax 2.0 will benefit from the changes. They also started remaking the weapon upgrade system, this time based more on the system in Call of Pripyat. The game designers are filling the empty parts of the levels with more "life" as well. Currently, we are testing the 2nd edited level of the 10 we plan to change. It's a long sequence, since we need to test run the levels individually, and in story mode as well, to see how the triggers work. When these are finished, we will check the keypoints in the storyline, and try to make the duller parts a bit better without destroying the "jenga tower" :).

Christmas and New Years is coming, with greetings of peace and prosperity, the whole dezowave group wishes the very best for you during this special time. May You enjoy all the best now and throughout the coming year. 2015 will be a cool year, it's not a secret we are working on our next project as well, which will be announced in a few months!

I've been following this project for a long, long time. I've come to the conclusion that I shouldn't be surprised by the choices this team makes.

Many stated that -if- the new renderer is from CoP, it's pretty obsolete and only increases the amount of issues over the long run. The same goes for the conflicting image you're keeping up on moddb. The DC version should've probably been released already, but things didn't go according to plan. Fixing this (pretty broken) mod was going to be a way bigger time-investment than you guys probably planned. People were (are?) leaving the time, which forces you to go to sites such as reddit to ask for help (I'd recommend better places, but like the first part of this comment already said, not going to be surprised anymore).

I just think it's a shame LA has become what it is today. It's the Windows Vista / Millenium eqvuivalent of the STALKER trilogy.

Also, regarding screenshots and showcases of 'new features'; It's kind of hard seeing the 'ultra quality' when it's showcased in 880p / 720p. I'd suggest capturing higher res screenshots for on the page, which preferably are lossless .png, too. Moddb has gotten an update and each image can be up to 6mb in size. You can even capture 2160p screenshots, downsize them to 1080p, upload the 1080p on moddb and link the higher res. I don't know what kind of machine you guys play the mod with, but it was just a thought, because I couldn't see any improvement on this so called dx11 renderer over the screenshots before that.

Without insight you can never be sure. As for asking for help on reddit, now we see it was a bad move, but seeing others also asked for help for their mods, we gave it a try. I'm too old maybe, but never used reddit before, saw Tejas made some posts, and asked him to post our recruiting news there as well. We had/have open jobs (even paid ones) here on moddb, and on our main site, but since february, only 2 person contacted us, and they were too young with near zero responsibility, so they simply vanished after a few days. It's much harder to find experienced people with free time nowdays. Free time is what people don't have as they grow up, and start to work for example, since they want to live, and have other free time activities instead of trying to please and feeed the biggest black hole.

Quote:Fixing this (pretty broken) mod

Let us know what's broken in it so we can try to fix it, cause since 3rd patch its pretty much playable, and runs fine. It's an other thing that there might be features or part of the story you don't like, but that wont make the game broken.

Quote:People were (are?) leaving the time, which forces you to go to sites such as reddit to ask for help

Some people are living because they are tired of the agressive sick kids who rule the internet, other people are leaving because they think LA was finished with the 3rd patch, and they want to work on something new. We are working on an unannounced title as well on an other engine since even if we got xray for our next project, after some guys decided to leak the sources of the engine as well, it became useless to work on it. But some of us are still here and trying to make the fans happy, those who are still interested.

Quote:Also, regarding screenshots and showcases

Screenshots are never the same quality, as you might see they are usually uploaded by various members, some of them has laptop, others have desktop pc. You could try to contact them in person, and make suggestions. There is nothing special in DX11 as you might have noticed in for example CoP when you compare dx10-11, but we planned to have it since 2013, and now we had the time to finish it. The tessalation stuff is definitely useful, and finally we could get the CoP IK work in LA, which is again a big plus compared to the old 1.3003 patch, still hard to show on screenshots.

Quote:For the rest of the features I think LA has done a great job at adapting other mods ideas

LA has been in development since late 2008, you can scroll back the screens, videos here and on youtube, we had everything for longer than anyone else, so saying the opposite is a terrible bite from a modpack maker, which we cant leave without comment.

To be honest I was never expected such comment from you, but maybe as time goes by youngs grow up and have enough ego to bite the old. Instead of telling us how lame and crappy we are/became, maybe you could try to contribute something useful to the community, even if not for LA. I can't even imagine what those people have in their mind who upvote such comment like yours.

Leaking the source was the best thing that could happen to the stalker community. I never understood why you always seen it like you were competing with others in the scene. Why would you stop modding X-Ray just because the source is leaked? What sense does that make? You should be modding X-ray for the love of X-Ray and the STALKER series.

It makes sense if you want to make money out of it.
Now that it is leaked, he can not hope to sell mods/addons for Stalker based on leaked sourced code.

They are just afraid that another bunch of actually competent people will do a better job than them. Hell, everyone knows that LA engine is basically ShoC engine with crappily backported functions from the CoP engine.

There's a thing called "donation".

Quote:Hell, everyone knows that LA engine is basically ShoC engine with crappily backported functions from the CoP engine

Which means you have no clue what youre talking about.

We know all this hatered and enviness comes from that fact some groups including us got certain stuff years earlier than others. As I said in my previous post, we got the materials with signing NDA, we kept our words, didn't want trouble, so we never leaked anything which was not allowed. Those who got access to such materials were probably worth for it due to the projects they worked on. It's not our or those fault that for example LA was interesting to them, and they helped us in any way they could. Anyone -and really. anyone- had the possiblity to make something new (which means anyone couldve gotten access to these who could show something worthy to them when they were still working on stalker), but it's always easier to throw the mud and do the unnecessary ****** talks. That's what really poisons any kind of community.

The engine was given to certain groups (who really loved stalker, and spent too many years working on them and were experienced enough to be able to work with that, ah and could showcase something which convinced gsc) with non-disclosure-agreement, some of them were too young and unresponsible to be able to handle such "material", it was just a matter of time it would leak. We were in discussion with gsc about our next commercial project being made on that engine, later it became obsolote since it was leaked, the engine is old, and cant really compete with unreal or cryengine or unity which are much cheaper to use. Now that its leaked, anyone can use it for modding for free, its good for educational purposes, but no one will be able to release commercial product based on xray engine, but I don't think that would happen since there are many more free and sandbox 'wysiwyg' type engines these days.

Also these continuous leaks while made the modding community happy, also ruined lots of connections on the other side. We were in talks to convince them to release the engine with gnu and officially, probably it will be done later, since its still unofficial leak, illegal ....but who cares... its 2015!

Its a shame you're taking my comment as violent. I've actually send quite a few PMs to you guys asking if you needed particle work done, too.

I am not biting the old or showing my inflated ego. I am merely stating what I believe. You may not agree, which I respect, and I thank you for your solid response, but a few comments here and there regarding my reputation or contributions to the community were anything but mature.

I'll see when someone indeed comes up with a better storyline for LA. Its that I'm too busy in the CoP modding community that I wont try it myself. Still, I respect you guys a lot (some more than others), but I find that this response has showed me how much weight you guys have to carry. I dont think its out of the blue you're agitated. If any have taken my first comment as violent or a showcase of my ego, it really isnt.

I can care less if my name is in the credits, because I have a team to take care of just like dez does.

If you'd talk level design then yes, I agree. For the rest of the features I think LA has done a great job at adapting other mods ideas, be that bigger or smaller ones, to their project and refining them. (There's still room for improvement, much like amoch stated)

LA has never been the flagship of this universe. And while few may believe it is, when you're breaking it down, there's loads less than what LA should've been. IMHO, the involvement of GSC has taken a huge toll on the overall quality of this mod.

Yes, mod. It's stand alone, but it's still a mod.

I don't want to demotivate the Dezowave crew (I believe strongly in the project, and have donated money), but I agree about the dx11 render. Much better time would be spent doing some small changes to the maps, to greatly reduce the amount of backtracking/walking currently in the game (as I've mentioned below). Same with certain story elements and cut scenes... I really want Dezowave to succeed, and make LA the best STALKER game possible. It sounds like their team is dimishing, which spells trouble for such an ambitious project. You would think such a project would get more interest from talented modders out there?
