Lost Alpha is a new episode of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series made by dezowave group for free!
some screens i found digging the screenshots folder in LA. they were made during summer, so hud is not the same on every screen, it changed a lot during the developent. currently (and i think it will be the final version) we have the health & stamina bars on the hud.
the grass draw distance was hacked from default 25m to 50m as you can see on this shot. (we plan to make some more versions, such as 100m, 150m for stronger pc-s, but there might be conflict with the weather files, since in such high distance the objects arent rendered in the same quality as the ones near you, so its possible you will see the grass, but not the terrain)
I get what you mean, but the 50m hack looks perfect to me.
yup, i think thats the best value.
Hmm, my PC is not highend, but this modification is very cool on new machies!
One word. Wow!
A wide, open, derelict zone. Isn't this goal clearly achieved in those last pics? This place doesn't look like the linear playgrounds full of little kids with guns, fighting each other when scripting allows them to, we saw in the retail.
hehe Expecting a Helicopter to sweep by.
Great! It always bothered me to see the grass being drawn on screen too close. But, doesn't 'hack' mean changing game *.dll's?
Anyway great job! I'm setting my hopes for bringing true Stalker experience to dez0wave and Lost Alpha, and (maybe) GSC and Stalker 2. But who will need to buy Stalker 2 when we'll have LA for free?
yep, hacking would be the right word, but lets call it editing for now :) Stalker 2 vs LA. I would never ever compare. La is an amateur free project based on GSC's work, no matter we added lots ouf our stuff, its still based on their game. you can be sure, Stalker2 will be at least as cool as soc or cop was!
addendum: calling ourselves amateur does not mean that i say we are lame, and can't do anything serious, since we have many pro members who finished the university as programmers, or designers, but still its just a hobby-project, not commercial, thats why i called it amateur.
Why do you not mention CS? :)
because cs was a complete fail in terms of gameplay.
Does anyone else want to walk through the exact spots tat these shots are taken from? That would be so cool, just look at the open ended area ;)
I really hope the mod wont be released until june 2011 - someone said this i think?
it is me
but it was a pure guess to "break" people hope about an early release.
by saying june 2011, I just wanted to say : "wait and trust LA team"
perhaps it will be released in 2012 you know !
Fingers crossed for February 2011!
This screen makes me feel like the first time I took AK-74m from bandit in vanilla stalker. It was my first visit to Dark Valley and I remember getting scared by Duty at the beginning. He was standing by the wounded bandit which I didn't see and I presumed that the red dot on minimap is actually him (dutyer). I killed him :( ;but others didn't turn hostile. Weather was rainy and cloudy; vanilla had only 1 weather preset in Dark Valley but I didn't mind it. Few minutes later after raiding the factory and killing couple of bandits that were its former occupants I found my first AK-74m. I was so happy because I had already found a scope, GP-25 and a silencer. :)
I take it you went to darkvalley before agropom lol ;)
I remember my first play through and I was still in cordon, hadn't gone to garbage yet, had a pistol and sawn off and my first thought was that i'd need a automatic rifle, then some bandits were walking towards the car park with mp5's and aksu's, it was such a risk to take one of them down and retrieve an mp5 before running away then entering the garbage trying to take down those 3 bandits with 17 rounds of mp5 ammo and a silenced pistol.
I miss times like that in stalker - where supplies are low and every bullet counts - its no fun when you have everything, Lost alpha should bring back all those old feelings of survival and desperation.
Correct :). I like to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for a long time. When I finished it first, it was August in game. So I thought why not explore as much as you can before going forward with the story. And I totally agree with you. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a lots of mods today but most of them take away that survival feeling. I remember the first time I went to X-18. I was preparing for full 2 in-game weeks before before I went there. As a matter of fact, I went to Rostok and Yantar before going to X-18, all in hopes to find some awesome weapon because I feared X-18 so much xD. Damn, it was scary. Seeing zombies around quiet Yantar lake for the first time, scientist bunker... Good memories :). Thats what makes Lost Alpha so special. Its like vanilla S.T.A.L.K.E.R. when it comes to gameplay (for example; modders today have obviously forgotten that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is not only FPS, but FPS/RPG hybrid and they put massive weapon damages that kinda kill RPG feeling of shooting) but it has much much more to offer. Lost Alpha will be the true S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Yeh after X18 I was making my way to Yantar hoping to find a gauss rifle like those idiots in the Darkvalley farm camp "found" and also to find ghost but it was the whole going somewhere like Yantar to find something valuable or powerful - even though not a lot was there it was the experience. Things like finding a Vintar in freedom base or risking death finding a moonlight in the Agropom electro tunnel.
They were all the reasons why we played stalker - the exploration, achievement and the chance of getting rich overshadowed by the threat of an instant and horribly painful death -but it was all worth it ;)
I noticed in LA's episode 2 video weapon strength is really high - but thats probably set to high so that Ai opponents are whizzed through seeing as their only showing level development. In the next video we might see some combat I hope ;)
Also I noticed in the video that the player can pick up an Lr300 and loads of AP ammo and grenades early on in cordon!?!? hopefully this will be removed :(
