Gold
corrupted men. It made them walk unfailingly, run as crazy. Gold made men work
from sunrise to sunset or even kill for him, but it was not gold…

My father
showed me the difference, it was one of these small things that are before you
all the time, right in front of your nose, and until they are not pointed out
to you, you do not realize they are really there. Most of women were not
corrupted by gold, they followed their husbands or took care of their children
while saying 'is all this for the wretch gold? What is the point in earning so
much money if we cannot be happy? '. For women, gold was something for what
their husbands and children risked their lives and, if some day they got it in
enough quantity, it would not serve men but to get drunk and to cheat them with
other women. That was the difference…

My family arrived in America a couple of years before the Great Famine. As most of the people, my parents came here looking for getting a good piece of land that allowed them to raise their children, take care of their livestock and subsist freely. Just like any other men, my father and I left to San Francisco, while my mother and my sisters stayed in our town.

When we
arrived to the city, everybody spoke of them; they counted us marvels of their
power: we would be stronger, we would be healthier, and we could even be
invisible to eyes of any other one. We never asked the price of them. The rings
corrupt, they burn, they eat and they devour anyone who used them and, surprisingly,
women are also attracted by them. Women also fall because of their power, women
also desire them and they walk, they run, they work and they kill for them.
That is why I know that rings are worse than gold, because them, strong and hefty hard women, accustomed to
fight day by day indefatigable to keep up their family, fell miserably before
the greed and the false words that those 'damned' people spit on the
rings.

Thousands
of histories are spread by word of mouth on the appearance of the first rings,
but I always gave more credibility to the most extended one. Almost 20 years
ago, in the western cities as San Francisco and Los Angeles, a number of
disturbances begun in the streets. We all believed that it was effect of
poverty or of a newly imported drug, the opium that consumed people, it turned their bodies and souls into cold
and pale specters. Suddenly, the disturbances became something more, they were
not still organized but in the cities cases of murders without apparent cause
began to be known. It was as simple as somebody walking down the street or
drinking whisky in a saloon and an old man or a woman with a baby in arms shot
though his head.

From here
on, it was murmured that in the mountains, near by a Church there was a mine of
gold, where something had been found, a kind of powerful magic devices. Most of
us did not even pay attention to those rumors; we continued thinking about
getting money to buy a bigger land and laughing at the fantasies of those
lunatics.

Fools we
were, when we realized, the streets were infested of damned, we call this way
to those that have been absorbed by the rings, cruel and heartless, they did
anything to get one of those rings.

Soon the
consequences were unavoidable: hunger began to extend along the cities, revolts
were constant, all those who could not get a ring enrolled in groups, in
guerrillas that acted to get the power in every street and in every
neighborhood. Leaders soon emerged; they had great quantity of rings brought
from the mountains and the damned ones worked for them. The price did not care.
Deformed, with a lost look, you could easily distinguish them if you looked
them to the eyes. But still, in spite of evil, there was always hope.

Some people
did not fall so easily in desperation, we were not so vulnerable. Our
obligation was to fight for stopping that chaos. In this way, I began to look
for all who did not have the weakness of the damned ones to enlist and request
them to fight for the cause. That day, our road began, a road that today
finishes here, to the feet of the demolished Church where everything began.

Hmm, definitely needs a grammar check / rewrite. English isn't your first language, I'm guessing. It was good enough to get the gist of it though.

Oh and I didn't realise this mod had fantasy elements to it. I'd call the 'rings of power' cliche? - if it weren't a western. *shrug* But I'll see where you go with this.

Oh, yes, english is not our first language but we try to make it as good as possible. All members of the team are from Spain and many of them are trying to learn as quick as possible.

Yes, there will be fantasy elements in Licor de Cactus. The rings will be more powerful if a team member with a ring is near, so if you can collaborate with your team members you will be able to make many more damage, to be faster or almost invisible.
