Howdy, I'm pleased to present my first WIP video for your unrestrained mockery / adulation.
This video demonstrates the bird sounds that I have developed, recorded over several days from various species of birds in my local area. There are a total of six bird varieties that you can hear in this video, tied to entities throughout the level which give a localised sound effect which changes with respect to distance between the listener and the source.
I recorded the raw audio with a portable microphone taped to a long stick, and chopped out each 'tweet' which had a good sound level ratio of bird to background noise. I then processed the audio with a few effects, added a tiny bit of reverb, and bounced the audio to separate .wav files. This gave me a total of thirty-seven raw bird sounds with which to work.
These sounds were imported into the Fmod Designer program and given 3D effects, such as increased reverb at distance, sound level attenuation, in addition to sound randomisation, delays and slight pitch variation.
The result is distinct sounds, located at precise points in 3D space, which give a much more realistic result than simply a stereo bird ambience overlaying the other game audio.
Please note that this is of course a work in progress, therefore I am still missing sounds, such as wind, the spinning of the windmill, and for some reason - the chickens... I must have broken the files somewhere...
I have disabled the music in this video, but fear not; you shall hear it soon!
WIP: Audio Test - Mod DB

Looking good, it has a very natural feeling to it.
Dude, how did you comment on this post? It's not even authorised yet! Also, thanks! :D
As group owner of Moddb.com I can see any post that is linked to my group even it hasn't been approved yet by the moddb team. ;)
Always good
Thanks :)
I could feel and smell a nice warm day in summer... great sounds. And the environment looks great, too.
Thanks - there's a few more sounds required before it's 'complete' - but it works thus far!
