9 comments by Henley on Jun 25th, 2011

More good news for the modders out there with their eyes set on the world scale, Civilization IV is now supported by Desura. Which means developers will be able to upload and make available their works to the community surrounding Desura. Let's welcome Civilization IV and the flagship mods to Desura!

We are always looking for more fantastic mods to support over the service, if you know of a mod or are apart of a mod that you think needs to be on Desura let us know and we will do our best to get it ready, even if we do not support the game the mod is currently for let us know either way.

Update Jun 25th, 2011

A larger amount of mods for Civilization IV is currently supported.

To list them all, some prominent total conversion mods such as Planetfall (a take on creating an Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri's sequel), Dune Wars and Rise from Erebus, as well as smaller ones (Hundred Years' War) and those striving to create a feel of "unofficial expansion packs" - Legends of Revolution, Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn, The Ancient Mediterranean and Thomas' War.

It's actually a combination of two pieces from composers in completely different eras, it's very surprising they flow together so well.

The first one is Dies irae, a 13th Century Hymn, the version used in LoR's intro was composed by mozart in 1791:

The second part is the second part of O-fortuna from the Opera Carmina Berana, again a 13th century poem, but the famous operatic style of the piece is very modern, and was composed by Carl Orff in 1935. I actually use the first part of O-fortuna as Hitler's diplo music, because Hitler and Orff were contemperories, and Hitler was known to adore Orff, also it just sounds evil. The first part of O-fortuna is imediately recognizable, but the LoR intro uses the second part of it, which often isn't heard. You can hear the first and second parts played together here:

Could you be more specific? I mostly support this mod from Civfanatics, but I probably should fill out some more media and stuff here now. In terms of specifics, I just mean do you want me to make a post here when a new update comes out, or is there something else I need to do?

The mod is GREAT ! I have a request though. Why don't you remove Abu Bakr (R.A) from the game. There many other Arab leaders you can choose from e.g Harun Rashid. Please don't select the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). It is my humble request. I am a muslim.

Unfortunately there are not very many high quality leaderheads to choose from (it takes a long time for the artists to produce them). Abu Bakr looks very well done, and he is a historically significant figure. By the way the development and planning for this mod is done in a subforum at, which is also where all of the leaderhead models available can be found. Currently we are planning on adding a new trait, and a few new leaders, so your thoughts are welcome on the metter. Here is the link to the Legends of Revolution forum:

Check out the Mod's Homepage for some information:

For a quick overview it is An Unofficial Expansion Project. The game is expanded in the same scope as Vanilla Civ4 was when Beyond the Sword came out. This mod is balanced, it is not a content driven mod, it is concept driven. Very coherent.

As far as the comment about it not being active, it is very active :p 3000 downloads in a month, that's quite a bit. It's just the activity for the mod is visible at Civfanatics, since that's where the modding community of Civ4 is the most active.

Well, I suppose the best thing to do would be to check out the mod's homepage found here:

Edit: Well they wol't let me post url??? Civfanatics, the modpacks forum, the Legends of Revolution thread is the homepage...

The reason I posted scant information here is I thought it was only really for data storage. I had been informed to stop using filefront to host, and to try this site. I wasn't aware it was active enough to get comments, and that I would need to put more information.

I would download this mod, but unfortunately you have practically no information on it. Please tell us what this is about, its features, etc.
