Legend of the Galactic Heroes (LoGH) is based on the japanese animation series bearing the same name. LoGH is all about the epic battles between gigantic fleets of the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. This mod will feature different political factions of the empire or the alliance. We aim to recreate the space opera feeling and the fleet tactics employed in the series. Research and economics will be reduced to a minimum and the main focus will be on tactics and fleet movements like in the series.

Ok another update. This time the empire introduces some new ships.
Note that there is quiet a bunch of reference material on the ships but unfortunatley it is all in japanese. We try to translate (though noone of us actually speaks the language) it so our view on ships and their roles might change as we discover more background information about them.

Barendown (new model, we changed it's class to 'advanced battleship' which is more appropriate)
Goettingen (formerly 'Sindri' - also got a new, more accurate model)

The ship models look great, especially that you are going to implement so many flagships. I am very curious how the gameplay will work.

No, not yet - probably we will release something by the end of this year, but nothing is decided yet. We are still working on it and I am pretty sure we will finish it. Due to the summer I have been slacking off a bit so there were no new updates.
Expect some more stuff when the days get shorter again :)
how do you plan on implementing flagships if there are no "hero" units in sins?
Well there are 'capital ships' in sins and they have certain abilities so we can just substitute those capitals for the 'heroes' and restrict their number to 1 at a time ( you may have 1 Commander in chief, 3 or 4 High - unique - Admirals and a bunch of lower ranking -generic- commanders). All non-command ships will be builable in a factory and there will probably be an 'academy' (capital factory) to build your Admirals plus their respective flagship. As it stands now you will also start the game with you main flagship, depending on the faction (e.g. the Hyperion for Yang's faction) We plan to implement 3 different factions for the empire and alliance each with different characters to play which all will employ different abilities to emulate their preferred tactics konwn from the series. Also we will have 'generic' commanships which will give your fleet bonuses and which can be build several times representing lower ranking 'anonymous' admirals of your fleet as said above.
But we are discussing the details still.

I'm a big fan of LoGH series and I was realy disapointed finding out that the newest original game didnt resemble much battles from the anime. It was a real suprise finding this early stage mod looking better than the commerial product.If you allow me I would like to share some ideas that I'd like to see in LoGH game.
Beam weapons range, damage, accuracy: I don't know if its posible on SoSE engine but beams damage should get lower with range increase. Also range of the beams should be, well, enormous. And like it was in anime the beams at these long ranges should miss a lot.
Colision zone and armour: As the ships are long and designed to shoot mainly forward, they should have very small head colision zone and wide side zone, so shooting from the side of targeted ship should be more accurate. With Healtf points there should be also armour or damage reduction. Different ammount on each side of ship. Of course big ships as battleships should have armour a lot thicker than destroyers or frigates, so they placed on on the front line could cover lighter ships from headon fire.
Too bad it's probably imposible to adjust real speed and distances. But that would be nice to wath an ambush of fleet moving with about 50000km/h speed :)
