Leave No Man Behind is a modification for Half-Life 2 based off the true events during the 1993 conflict in Somalia. With this modification, we hope to achieve a great deal of realism, while still keeping the game play and fun level top notch. This game will incorporate military tactics, as well as all the weapons, vehicles, and surroundings experienced by the United States Military while in Somalia.

As said above, the maps will be created with every detail in mind. From every doorway to window, we will try to achieve realism in a whole. Maps won't be the only thing in the mod that pay attention to detail. All of the weapons and vehicles will be modeled and textured with pinpoint accuracy. Reload, draw, fire, and jam animations will be animated using military advisement. An explosion will disorient the player, depending on how far he/she is away from the explosion. Shrapnel can have the same effect as a bullet, which can cause a leg to limp, or an arm to sway more when aiming. Each body part has a certain health assigned to it. No more of shooting a person in the foot 20 times and them dying. When a body part hits 0 health, or "dies", it will loose its ability to perform an action. For example, if a leg "dies", the player will limp and hobble around at slower speeds until he/she seeks medical attention. Jamming will also be part of the mod, for example when one holds down the trigger for an extended amount of time (on a fast firing rifle) jamming can occur. Also, jamming will happen randomly through out your tour. When this happens, you press the key bound to fixing the jam, and an animation is shown of you fixing the jam.

There are 2 major teams in LNMB, United States and Somalia’s. Each team is divided into classes. In the United States there are Rangers, Delta Force, and Pilots; in Somalia’s there are civilians and militia. There are many groups within each class, as well as advantages and disadvantages to each. Everyone starts off as a United States Ranger on the US side. The pilots are determined, with a limit set based on server population, and then the rest of the squad chooses their group. They will have to choose from Ranger Rifleman, Ranger Grenadier, Ranger Automatic Weapon Man, Ranger Machine Gunner, Ranger Commander, or a Ranger Medic. Once the player achieves enough points, they can choose to upgrade to Delta Force. The major differences between the two will be running speed, recoil, iron sight movement, and marksman. Delta Force is obviously trained better then a Ranger, making them a more efficient killing machine. The Somalia Militia will have a system of their own. The more terrorist activities preformed by them, like killing US personnel or blowing up a helicopter, the more points they receive. The more points they receive, the more khat they gain. Khat is the drug that the Somalia’s took which made them not feel pain, and gave them rage towards anything they didn't like. The Somalia’s are able to purchase weapons from the Black Market, giving them a wide variety of weapons to choose from.

All of the maps created for LNMB will be as accurate as possible, working off real pictures taken from the satellite and personnel. Sounds will be handled just if you were in a real firefight. For example, bullets will make a hiss if it passes by close. If a firefight is happening else where in the map, the sounds will be softer and muffled if blocked by a building and far away, and will become clearer and louder as you approach. Game play will be the factor that incorporates fun with realism. As mentioned above, the point’s factor will be a way to moving up in the ranks, giving player’s access to different classes and new equipment. There will be many different types of game modes:

Capture- Delta and Ranger forces must capture key members of the local militia and escort them to a UN controlled zone. Somalia combatants and militia members must prevent the capture of these targets.

Humanitarian Aid- Delta and Ranger forces must escort a UN food shipment to its intended destination and ensure it is stored in a secure location. Somalia combatants and militia members must capture the shipments and escort them to a militia controlled area.

Raid- Delta and Ranger forces must successfully raid and destroy designated caches of weaponry held by local militants. Somalia combatants and militia members must prevent the destruction of these targets.

Rescue- Delta and Ranger forces must rescue downed pilots, POWs or an incapacitated squad and escort them to a designated medic zone. Somalia combatants and militia members must prevent the rescue of these targets.

Intercept- Delta and Ranger forces must intercept and destroy a shipment of weapons being transported by the local militia. Somalia combatants and militia members must prevent the destruction of these targets, and escort them to a militia controlled area.

Update

News

This is a update to let the public know that we are not dead, but we are coming to the point where we need people who can model, skin, and animate players, weapons, or vehicles before we can continue. If you are able to help us out, please contact us via forums or email.

I once again reinstalled our website, for a bug in the programming wouldn't let us post new updates on the main page. We will do our best to keep up with the updates, and let you know whats going on.

I would like to invite everyone to stop by our forums, and participate in the discussions that are going on. We value the opinions of everyone, and if you have a question, dont hesitate to ask.

Im sorry I dont have any screenshots to show you this time, but I hope to have some in the near future.

I pray that our head modeler, Hoppie, is ok, because he went to the hospital about 8 months ago and hasn't returned.

X stands for Experimental and M stands for Military.
Hency why most military ordance are M-something, and why experimental ordnance such as the H&KUSA XM-8 contain the "X".

OMG this is gonna be better than Delta Force Black Hawk Down (based on same events) cause this mod lets you play as Somolians. In DFBHD you only paly Delta Force agaisnt US rangers in mulitiplayer cause htey don wont to offend black/ somolian people. But US rangers fighting US Delta doent make any sence

Also, wanted to clarify this for the person that claimed "XM" is the civilian term, it is not. The XM-177E2 was the Colt Model 629 following the XM-177E1 prototypes (Colt Models 609, 610 and 610B). The XM-177E2 designation was given by the U.S. Army.

The XM-177E2 entered production in 1968, and it is the weapon typically recognized as the CAR-15. All Colt Models of the same basic design are also generically known as 'CAR-15', but the XM-177E2 defines what a CAR-15 is and would have been the weapon used by the Delta operators in the Mog in '93. The SEALs would have been familiar with them as well, since the U.S. Navy SEALs had been using the CAR-15/XM-177E2 since Vietnam.

The carbine version of the M-16 appeared in 1965, and it was known as the 'CAR-15'. This name was generically used for all of the various models designed and produced by Colt, and it continues in common use as Colt still produces weapons in the series. The current models are the Colt Models 702 and 733 (Commando).

The M-4 was a Colt Model 702 CAR-15, which the U.S. Army picked up as the "M-4 selective-fire carbine." The M-4 was basically just a shortened M-16A2. The M4A1 was designed with special operations forces (SOF) in mind, and it comes with an M-16A3 receiver w/ full-auto capability rather than the standard 3-shot burst. The Colt Model 702 was not picked up as the 'M-4' until 1994, which was the year after the Battle of the Black Sea. Temporal impossibility for the M-4 to have been in use by anyone in Task Force Ranger. Besides, it is known that the Delta operators used customized and finely tuned CAR-15 carbines (XM-177E2, most likely).

The weapon pictured is clearly a Colt Model XM-177E2, and that is not just the civilian term for the weapon. That is its specific model, but it would be generically termed a "CAR-15." It is obvious what model is pictured when you see the XM-177 style muzzle break. It cannot be confused with an M-4 or M-4A1 as both of those models have obviously longer barrels.

All of the Colt carbines can be called "CAR-15." These can be broken down by their specific model by people who know such things. The M-4 was a Colt Model 702. The one pictured is a Colt XM-177E2, which was used under the generic term 'CAR-15' in the military. It is the weapon you will see being used in Black Hawk Down.
