Lambda Wars (formerly Half-Life 2: Wars) brings the struggle between the human resistance and their Combine overlords to a multiplayer real-time strategy setting. The Lambda Wars beta only requires Alien Swarm installed to play. It features 3 multiplayer game modes: Sandbox, Annihilation and Overrun, showcasing the Rebels and Combine playable factions and a full-fledged RTS interface and HUD. There is also a singleplayer tutorial and a handful of singleplayer missions.

indeed but my only issues is how closely grouped the combine units are ... makes them easy grenade fodder if you know what I mean :/ would be more natural is they stayed with in a certain area or squad radius but still moving on their own finding cover and following a point man in a semi spread our pattern.

Still great work for a WIP ported to a new engine. I have high hopes for this mod.

I'm thinking of a CoH-like setup with the soldiers, where they move a tad spread out yet not too spread out. I think different formations would be a better idea though (line formation, skirmish formation, box formation, etc).

It would be really awesome if you could make what Phenixtri sayd about
"they stayed with in a certain area or squad radius but still moving on their own finding cover and following a point man in a semi spread our pattern"

I just imagine.. By the way on your place i would took a look at how combine move in squads in hl2,gmod etc and made a formation like that..

Now on the Alien Swarm engine D:

I know it's supposed to be free but having to buy a new graphics card every two weeks seems expensive to me.

How so? The Alien Swarm engine is less demanding than the 2007 Source engine. And the mod will still require HL2: Episode Two.

Yeah it's supposed to be. Except the last time I played Alien Swarm it used proprietary graphics technology that appeared to be badly coded as it caused my computer to shut down several times due to overheating. Like an idiot I believed the people saying it was impossible for a game to cause it, and ended up with a burned out GPU and PCI slot on my motherboard.

I really love this mod but I'm not going to risk my new hardware on the off chance it might not do the same again.

If a game such as alien swam blows your card, then you must have a pretty poorly manufactured card.

Nope. It could handle everything else I had at the time: RA3, SupCom, SupComFA, DoWII. Seriously, google Alien Swarm graphics card heatup.

It really doesn't, but it's still pretty neat.

Looks really cool.

But to give some tips, perhaps enable a form of "push" function for troops trying to get to a place but another trooper is blocking the path :P As seen 1:52, either that or a interrupt that cancels his movements if he cannot get to his destination, but I think the interrupt is a bit more annoying than soldiers being pushed away because they are in the way.

In general, units push away other units. But when they are ordered to a cover spot, they will hold position (not pushable). I just made this last weekend, so didn't worked it too much yet. Rather then pushing away, they shouldn't try to take a cover spot which is already taken.

indeed they should move and sit behind the occupied cover and when not engaging targets cover their allies 6 so to speak.

HL2: Wars, the only strategy mod for HL2. That's why its so amassing, and also beautiful made. I can't wait for the final version of this.

Also, if there is campain mode, I want Warcraft dungeon-like missions, where you have a limited amount of units and you have to get-reach-kill something :D

Does the cover system use hint nodes placed in hammer, or does it calculate where there is cover?

It uses the hiding/sniper spots generated by the navigation mesh.
