I've uploaded two new things to the download site. The first is a fully patched version of Korsakovia, so this is the one to grab if you don't already have the mod. Do the normal unzipping thing into your SourceMods folder.

The second is the patch itself, which you can apply to existing downloads of Korsakovia. It's a much smaller download, so opt for that if you have already grabbed the game once.

Thanks to everyone who mailed in suggestions and support - it's really appreciated, and hopefully we'll be announcing a new project soon.

To all the people who keep making comments about this MODs confusing and hectic gameplay, moaning about complex level structure and unrelenting enemies.

I think it’s important to say that you are playing a character that is insane. You have Korsakov’s syndrome, you have not perception of past events and you live in the present, while your mind fills in the blanks, with anything it can. I think that is the reason for the strange and complicated levels that also appear un-detailed and generic.

I think when playing anything 'The Chinese Room' creates its important to remember that they are more like... experiences then actual games. There is a significant difference in what they are trying to do then games like… lets say Call of Duty or something more mainstream like that.

Yes, but the reason this doesn't excuse bad game design should be evident. Imagine if I made a game where the character has severe pyromania, so every single surface of every single object was made out of fire. Even if your computer didn't immediately explode from trying to load thousands of complex lighting and animation elements, the game would be unplayable due to taking damage from every surface.

It saddens me, it really does, that Korsakovia is very nearly unplayable. It has potential, but between excrutiatingly bad audio cuts, monsters that can crash the game if you so much as LOOK at them (quite literally) and maps that are so prone to crashes that it's possible to ruin your file by quicksaving in them... it's not even an experience, just a frustrating exercise of patience as you reload and try again as it continually crashes and locks up. And then if you actually manage to make it work, it's almost impossible to win anyway.

This mod is an absolute mess. Those goddamn black clouds make solving puzzles, stopping to think, exploring, or even walking nearly impossible.

Speaking of puzzles, I got stuck more times in the first 30 minutes of playing than I have ever gotten stuck in any other mod. There is no direction and seemingly tons of dead ends. Perhaps figuring out what to do would be a little easier, had those ******* clouds not been hounding my *** 24/7.

And what's worse, is that apparently cheats make the game crash at every turn. I tried notarget JUST for some relief, and the game is unplayable due to crashes.

But damn those black clouds. My computer is mid to low-end, and runs most mods just fine at mid to max settings; however, those clouds bring my frame rate from 120 fps to 2 fps to CRASH. Is there a cheat or console code to remove them from the game? They add nothing and serve no purpose other than rushing the player, which is a HUGE no-no in a survival-horror game.

Korsakovia would be much more atmospheric and engaging had the author put a little thought into what a player enjoys doing in a mod (or any game), and fending off invincible (or so it seems), framerate-destroying, grenade-powered shoving, gaseous, shrieking, maddening, insanity-inducing, vaporous blobs at EVERY turn is a one hell of a way to send the player (me) off screaming into the night.

By no means a horror mod, just a frustrating pain in the ***, and I doubt I'll ever be returning to finish this one. Guess I'll go play Nightmare House again.

And one more thing, after the first loading screen, I lost my crowbar? What? Also, in the game settings, they apparently removed the option to scroll through your weapons with the mouse wheel? WHY

Let me just be clear that I really liked the concept and story (so far) of this mod. I really REALLY wanted to like- no, to LOVE this mod, as I'm a huge fan of horror, but so many things just ruined it for me.

Atmosphere, guys, come on. And no, I don't mean the gases found in those infuriating black clouds.

I think you are actually supposed to lose the crowbar. You have to find it later, took me a minute to find that out.

Got home late one nice, been smoking up some nice green. Looked at my steam games list and saw Korsakovia, it has never got past the title credits without crashing. Thought screw it, tried to launch; it was working now for some reason. Alone in a dark room monging out to the trippy menu music, started to play. AMAZING EXPERIENCE, SO GOD DAMN ATMOSPHERIC. One of the best experiences i have ever had with a game. Until about an hour or so into it when it went to a loading screen and crashed. And cant seem to get past that point :(
