Yes, it's fixed!

5 years ago News 9 comments

I've uploaded two new things to the download site. The first is a fully patched version of Korsakovia, so this is the one to grab if you don't already have the mod. Do the normal unzipping thing into your SourceMods folder.

The second is the patch itself, which you can apply to existing downloads of Korsakovia. It's a much smaller download, so opt for that if you have already grabbed the game once.

Thanks to everyone who mailed in suggestions and support - it's really appreciated, and hopefully we'll be announcing a new project soon.

This will certainly be a lesson in horror. Judging by the generally poor mapping, I suppose this will rely heavily on its extraordinary storytelling and use of sound. I mean that as no fault to the developer, it's just the same issue that Dear Esther had that may accidentally drive new people away. I suppose this will be getting a makeover very soon.

I wonder why this developer hasn't been able to snag a dedicated, experienced mapper to help him turn his mapping endeavors into something truly great.

I agree with you for the most part about the emphasis being on story. However, I think mapping is really too subjective of an aspect to analyze as being poor. The atmosphere is very different and, although the graphical choices arn't as realistic as most mods, I think that the feeling of clostrophobia is acheived. My guess is that the level design is trying to disturb the player, as if they were actually a prisioner in a mental institution. It kinda reminds me of the games like mondo agency or penumbra. There's not much to look at, because its trying to induce a psychological effect on the player.

I fully agree with you.
People often simply look at the screen shot and decide if it's a good mod or not.

Dear esther didn't have such a great look (the new one looks amazing though), but it had a very deep story, amazing atmosphere, amazing music and the narrating was mindblowing. It set you in this mood that kept evolving, and you could really feel the psychological state of the protagonist.

Sadly, alot of people only are interested in zombies and shooting at meaningless stuff.

Since this is from the guys who brought us Dear Esther, I have no doubt it will be an immersive and atmospheric experience. However going by the trailer, I have no clue as to what your enemy is. Maybe it's better that way.

Whoever wrote the description might want to check and see if he/she doesn't have any hidden talent for writing. Two sentences; a horribble world opens to the reader and sucks you right in. That's pretty good.

Overall I like this, but it plays very unstable for me -- the enemies, however they are rendered and regardless of my video settings, have a tendency to cause me to crash if I so much as look at them. What makes this painful is the fact that this isn't an overstatement -- I mean merely LOOKING at them can make me crash. I'm stuck at one point in the third (fourth, actually? not sure) chapter where I simply cannot continue because swiveling the camera thirty degrees to the right results in crashing…
