Killing Floor is a survival horror total conversion set in London, England. In a laboratory under the city, a series of human experiments in cloning and biological augmentation are being conducted by the employees of "Horizon". Horizon is a BioTech corporation formerly employed by the government to do the R&D on a top secret series of synthetic combat drugs which would enhance the effectiveness of soldiers in the field. Horizon's funding was cut, when their practices were deemed too immoral even for such a controversial project, but the research didn't stop. Funded by private money from the deep pockets of Horizon chairman and research scientist Kevin Clamely, tests continued in a more...private location. That was until something went wrong. There were reports that the lab had been comprimised; that the subjects were behaving abnormally...then, silence. Several days later, twisted shapes began to emerge from the confines of the lab into the city above.

The cult favorite Unreal 2k4 mod goes retail on Steam!

For those who are wondering why the latest update to the Killing Floor mod is taking so long, check this out:

Tripwire_Interactive wrote:Roswell, GA, March 20th 2009 - Tripwire Interactive is proud to announce Killing Floor, due for release over Steam in the near future. Killing Floor is a first-person co-op survival horror, set in and around London after a mad scientist's "specimens" have broken loose and gone on the rampage.

The game features:

  • Co-op game mode for up to six players obliterating multiple waves of specimens
  • Solo game mode for offline play
  • Watch those crucial and violent creature deaths in slomo "ZEDtime", even in multiplayer
  • 9 different monster types trying to eat your face off, armed with everything from teeth and claws, through to chainsaws, chainguns and rocket-launchers
  • 12+ weapons for the players to chose from, ranging from knives and fire-axes up to pump shotguns, rifles and a flamethrower
  • Add in a welder, medical tools and body armor to help the players survive
  • Persistent Perks system, allowing players to convert their in-game achievements into permanent improvements to their character's skills and abilities
  • Players choose which Perks to play with, so they can best balance out a co-op team to survive the horrors
  • Open, non-linear play areas: choose when and where to fight - or run; weld doors closed to try and direct the monster horde
  • Full support for Steamworks features, including Steam Achievements and Friends
  • Fully-configurable, allowing players to change things as simple as the difficulty level or number of creature waves, or go so far as to set up their own favorite waves of monsters
  • Includes SDK for the creation of new levels and mods

Killing Floor is now going to be a standalone game! Congrats to Alex AKA Mr. Kadish on taking his baby to retail! VE3D also has an article up with some screens. As soon as Alex is done "celebrating", I'm told we can expect an official Killing Floor game profile here on ModDB. Another win for modders!

Dude killing floor came out BEFORE left4dead was even announced.

Instead of being a complete ******* you could always not be a fanboy and actually know wtf you are talking about and maybe do some research before you post such stupidity.

KF is COMPLETELY different then L4D. L4D is a css styled linear zombie killing shooter. Kf is a non linear survival horror with semi realistic game mechanics and kickass ingame music! :D And in KF they are specimen (Mutator clones), not zombies.

I guess you haven't seen the huge fanboy uproar this game is getting everywhere because they "stole" the idea from L4D...? It makes me laugh because to be fair, L4D turned out great at first but boring after a while. Not to mention KF has been out ages and L4D only came out recently.

But people don't see the facts, they just see this as coming out "after" L4D, so it MUST of been a rip off.

Still, its miles better than other zombie games... Like a certain one on the source engine that causes no panic at all.

EVERY zombie game got criticized when L4D came out. It IS highly overrated and yes I also got bored of it right away. Everything I had hoped for was not there.

Also TBH, ZPS is a good mod and a great concept, being a one of a kind in the zombie genre. Leave it alone :P

And why is this so awesome? Are they going to add new stuff like weapons and such, because otherwise, this is a joke. Really, they only change it to a standalone game, adding some steam crap which you don't need and put a price on it. Seriously, I can't see why people think this is awesome. Ah well, I never play online so I'll just stick to the old version. And don't get me wrong, this mod is really nice, it just seems to be pointless to throw away money for a newer version.

It isn't just a NEWER version. It's a complete remake onto another version of the UT2.5 engine. There is NOTHING being used in this "new version" but the original concepts.

Please, make decision. You make GAMES or MODS? Building fanbase for mod and then destroying in exchange for new game fanbase isn't good idea.

Fanboys are free to minus my post. Adequate people are free to think.

TF was retail for OB releasing at around 35 dollars, so quit complaining. KF has been around for 5 years and STILL has players. Retail KF MIGHT cost up to 20 on release, and will get a far larger community

I don't think it will a greater community, though it's a good mod, and i'll problably going to be worth playing game. You can't really compare the two exept for the fact that 20$ is more than 9$, but it's still not that expensive for a game.
