Mod Details

The objective of the Killer App Mod for TRON 2.0 on the PC, is to incorporate elements from TRON 2.0: Killer App for the Xbox platform that were never released for the PC version of TRON 2.0. It also includes other fixes and additions for the game, such as 16:9 and 16:10 Widescreen support. New to Version 1.1a of the mod is compatibility with the Steam version of TRON 2.0, easier installation, v1.1 bug fixes, and restored Multiplayer support in-game on both the CD/DVD and Steam versions.

Installing and using the Mod

TRON 2.0 and the Killer App Mod will work on
Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10 (both 32-bit and 64-bit in all cases).

If you can't get Widescreen working, or have ANY other problem,
visit the above troubleshooting link.

Note that the Killer App Mod allows you to choose Français, Deutsch, Italiano, and Español text for use in the game, after you install the Unofficial v1.042 Patch. In other words: if you download and install the Unofficial Patch, you can later change the language from English. There is really no reason to use the Official Patch any more, on the CD/DVD Retail version of TRON 2.0.

If you want to use the User Error Single Player expansion in widescreen,
you must download and install it after you install the Killer App Mod.

Also note that if you want to use Xistence's Ancient Disc Mod, you must download and install it first before you install the Killer App Mod.

When using Single Player with the Killer App Mod, older saved games will not work and loading them will cause the game to crash. You must either disable the mod to load old saved games, or start a new game. Since the mod fixes a few issues and adds some things: you will probably want to enjoy the new improved experience in Single Player from the beginning, anyway.

When using Multiplayer with the mod, EVERYONE must be using the mod in order to access the new features when playing together. This inculdes the host (server) and all players (clients). This new Version 1.1a of the mod is not compatible in Multiplayer with the older versions. (If you have an old version, you must uninstall it first.)

If you try to join a Multiplayer server not running the mod, you will be kicked off and the game will let you know why. If you cannot find any servers running the mod at the time that you want to play online, the mod can be completely disabled to allow you to play with others who do not have it.

If there are no servers running the mod: you will need to contact the server operators and request that they start using the Killer App Mod, or host your own server.

TRON 2.0: Killer App Mod v1.1a Released

ModDB Download link

It's been over four years since the last update to the TRON 2.0: Killer App Mod, here on ModDB. The release of TRON 2.0 on Steam, has necessitated an interim, updated release of the Killer App Mod. The previous v1.1 of the mod does not work very well with the Steam version of the game.

This interim version of the mod does not have the majority of the huge improvements that will be in v1.2 of the Killer App Mod. You can get a taste of what v1.2 will offer, in this previous news post. Examples of improvements in v1.2 are: better widescreen support, being able to select non-4:3 resolutions in-game, recreated weapons from the Xbox version of the game in Multiplayer and Single Player, and additional languages (Russian and Hungarian).

But a few of the improvements that were originally meant to debut with v1.2, have been back-ported to v1.1a. A full list of the changes from v1.1 to v1.1a can be found here.

The most significant change, is restored functional Multiplayer without the need to install the old Multiplayer Fix any more. The in-game server browsing and joining features are now working again. Clunky, awkward, out-of-game solutions are no longer required.

Note that v1.1a of the Killer App Mod is not compatible with v1.1 for online Multiplayer. Everyone playing together in a match must be using v1.1a, and that includes the server hosting the match. I recommend uninstalling v1.1 before replacing it with v1.1a. LDSO has TRON 2.0 Multiplayer servers hosting matches on weekends, and they are currently running v1.1a. LDSO will also be providing the owner of the tron-servers.net servers with v1.1a, so he can update his servers and then anyone with v1.1a can join.

Killer App Mod v1.1a was tested on both the CD/DVD Retail and Steam versions, and will work with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 (both 32-bit and 64-bit in all cases). It should also still work on 98/Me/2000, but was not tested on those versions of Windows.

We don't have an exact ETA for the Killer App Mod v1.2 update. We were hoping to finally have it done by the end of 2014, but time spent on v1.1a likely means there will be a delay until early 2015. If GOG.com releases their own version of TRON 2.0, we will either create another interim update or add support to v1.2.

You can also check out other new features in v1.2, from an earlier news post.

Ya I think I jess **** bricks and gave up on v1.1 of this mod from the beginning with the installer.

I first off have to run my rig in Safe Mode to even get the installer to work 100%.

I secondly have tried using the preset configs in the installer to set my widescreen resolution with an aspect ratio of 16:9 then a resolution of 1920x1080. This did not work game still runs via ingame resolution of 1280x960.

Thirdly I tried using the preset config of an aspect ratio of 16:9 in the installer and a custom resolution manually typed in as 1920x1080. This too did not work at all and game still runs via ingame resolution of 1280x960.

So basecally your installer sux and does not know how to truly inject widescreen resolutions it seems atm.

I find it weird tho as I remember using v1.0 installer and it seemed to do much better job at injecting the widescreen resolutions.

Once you set the resolution in the installer you can't go back in and mess with the resolution setting in the game. Doing that will revert the resolution to your in game setting. I have it running perfectly with the 1.1 installer and plenty of screenshots to prove it on gamexotic.com

First off, v1.0 never supported widescreen. In fact, it didn't even see a wide release. It was v1.1 that first added widescreen.

I know that you've had this mod working in widescreen in the past. Well, nothing has changed since then. You're still using the same version of the mod.

The installer getting stuck only happens to a small percentage of people. But I agree that it's a significant problem. It's most likely caused by an anti-virus or firewall interfering with the process. That's why Safe Mode works, nothing else is running at the time when you install in Safe Mode.

As for the resolution, it's stated in the readme and the troubleshooting guide that the game doesn't support selecting any resolution that isn't 4:3 aspect ratio. That's why when you go into the Display options, it resets to a low resolution. Running the Mod Manager is supposed to reset the resolution back to what you chose during install. Worst case scenario, you can edit the resolution in the display.cfg file in your Tron 2.0 folder.

In v1.2, you'll be able to select any resolution in the game itself. Why wasn't this the case before in v1.1? Simply because it's something that wasn't easy to implement.

If you continue to have trouble, ask for help on Facebook, our LDSO.net forum (you've posted there before), or send us an e-mail.

Ok new problem. I went to ingame display and it had 1024x768 selected and didnt hit ok but escape. Now when ever I launch via Killer App Mod Manager it launches in that resolution.

How the heck does 1 fix it to load in their bloody widescreen resolution again?

This is annoying as hell.

Has any1 else had the Killer App Mod's installer literally stop responding as soon as it gets done doing the part of Installing all the files for it? Like right as soon as it is sposed to start patching stuff.

I gotta ask, have there been any workarounds that make the multiplayer playable?

Multiplayer has always been playable. It's never stopped working. Though, at a minimum, you want to install the v1.042 patch. Official or Unofficial, it doesn't matter. But the Unofficial patch has some additional benefits.

If you want to use this mod (which adds new features to Multiplayer), the server you connect to and other players must also have the mod. But the mod can be disabled and you temporarily revert back to the retail v1.042 release.

Wikipedia states the developer stopped supporting the game. In this day and age, that can mean anything from just no more patches to full on lockout of MP features. ( En.wikipedia.org )

Also you get a point for being kind to explain mod useage in MP, but I myself already know a good bit about that from my time with Battlefront 2 and JKA.

All the same, thx.

That Wikipedia article about Tron 2.0 isn't very informative. We wrote our own article with a detailed history of the game, if anyone would like to read it.
Ldso.net

If workarounds were required for a functioning multiplayer, we would have mentioned it in past news or the description for this mod. Since a large component of it is dedicated to enhancing MP.

New problem ... somewhat embarrassing... I don't seem to be able to zoom using the sniper rifle (the "LOL"). Shouldn't this just be a right click (same button as a disc block)?

Nope, the mouse wheel and + and - keys are used to zoom. But the game defaults to assigning those keys to the number pad. If you have a laptop, then you might not have a numpad. If so, you'll have to remap them to the other + and - keys.
