We have 5 new screenshots to show off today.
First, A closer look at the perimeter fence post.

This Fence post is a 100% replica of the prop used in the movie.
Go ahead and compare it yourself :D
Our W.I.P. T-rex.

It still isn't textured, but it is rigged for animation.
One issue though is that it isn't quite accurate enough yet. It needs to look more like this.

So this T-rex model needs a bit more work if we are going to have it looking like a replica.

How can you be disappointed about his choice to switch engines? If this mod has the graphic capabilities of Crysis, it will be beyond amazing, let alone if it exceeds Crysis by the time it's released. It appears to be a very wise choice anyway I look at. The realism of the environments is unbelievable. I praise your work 100%, and I wish you the best. David
Not true. There are tools in Hammer that allow me to unload and load objects or areas specified. This map is just interior space of the Visitors' Center so there is not a 1/3 mile wide outdoor area that has to be blocked out. Interior and Exterior sections are seperate BSP files. I'm sticking with .MDL because Hammer brushes just don't get the job done due to the limitation placed on them.
Don't make the entire map out of models, there would be no way to block visablity then.
Damn I like those textures, I wish I had some like that.
I think what you are referring to as cartoonish is... Untextured :P
JP:OG is not an accurate reference. It differs from the films depiction.
It looks good. Though maybe a little cartoonish. I'd suggest taking a close look at Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. It gives you a great idea of what things look like. Keep up the nice work!
Kattevoer, that is wonderful advice and I'm proud to let you know that I have been doing those very things.
The beginning stage of the Rotunda was a low poly model. The purpose was to figure out the placement of the supports/columns because the entire design of the building is situated around 10 points. A lot of the map that you see now has low poly details, some are already high poly. The fossil surfaces in the Rotunda will have a low poly displacement with normal map. It will give the effect of a truly 3D surface, but with a lot less 3D faces used.
I'm extremely obsessive about the detail of the film. I study every single frame. I even have both the fullscreen and widescreen version just to study every piece of the picture. My need to be as accurate as possible has set me back a bit because the tasks have been very demanding when I sometimes havn't had the experience to fulfill them. However, whenever I am stuck on something, I learn how to do it, or do it better and I overcome the obstacle. Though some people wouldn't go through the trouble, I think it pays off in the end.
I have read the book, it was a wonderful read. I think the characters in the book are a bit more developed like Ian Malcolm. His long speeches were quite interesting and I enjoyed his character the most, but I do favor the movie over the book. There are a lot of novel details that are planned for this mod that were not directly in the film such as the Aviary. The over all plan I have for this mod is a compromise between the novel and film. I think I have the capacity to blend the best of both worlds together in an intelligent fashion.
I thank you for your comments and your interest in this project and it will be my pleasure to share more information with you as time goes on.
gogo jurassic park :D.
id say stop moddeling props highres first, its alot faster to just doing it lowpoly to start of with, and then do a normalmap in photoshop or crazybump.
Dont forget to keep lookin at the movie for reference for textures and props, start of with the most crucial props to set the atmosphere of the environment.
ohyeah, dont forget to read the book, its very cool.
But hey, thats my 2 cents.
i wont lie, looking at these screenshots and the idea for half-life 2 just gave me a stiffy
The game is looking great,i`m a great fan of the movie and the book and i hope you finish it.
