This demo release is the Visitors' Center, part of it.. in-game.
The front exterior, the rotunda, cafe, and kitchen. You're able to move around in it, and explore it, so give it a test.

It isn't the greatest, and the export actually has bugs because it was exported while I was still deleting faces and replacing them. So you'll notice some screwed up things with it.

Last night I had finished cleaning up the Visitors' Center for a demo, but I didn't export the cleaned up one yet because I want to do it with colors. I'm just gonna wait and release this slightly messed up one for now, cause in a few days Adam will be back, and we'll be able to release something far better. I'll put some characters in it to interact with, a few of our models like the Jeep and fence.. and the Visitors' Center will be much better and be in color, not greyscale.

So for now, just enjoy this release. It is most of the memorable areas from the Visitors' Center. Here is a direct download link from my website in case it isn't authorized yet on ModDB's server.

Ok, thats kinda true!

But you know, as a Jp-Fan waiting for a JP-Mod for a long time, it feels kinda inefficient to me, seeing two different teams working to achieve the same goal, instead of working together.

This mod exists because I felt Jurassic Life was inefficient and their progress slow. True fact.
I was displeased with a many number of things. For instance, level design wise.. I disliked majority of the Visitors' Center.
When I brought up the kitchen's ugliness.. how filthy it looked, like a guys locker room that hadn't been washed in 15 years, the leader of that mod simply replied..

"Jurassic Park's kitchen in the movie all squeaky clean is unrealistic".

Know it isn't. The park hasn't yet opened for one, so everything is new.. no long term stains on things; the staff cleaned it up before leaving the island, they aren't going to leave it filthy.
Lastly, this is supposed to be a top resort according to John Hammond, so why would he have poor health standards in regards to the place peoples food is prepared?

Of course about 1-2 years later, when Jurassic Life finally did an update after 12 months of inactivity, they showed the new kitchen which was like the movie now.. same tile floors and textures from the movie for everything else.. Now accurate and cleaner.

Their old kitchen wasn't just filthy, the textures were stock from HL2, so things were falling apart.. like broken or missing tiles.
Yes, that is DEFINITELY usual of all kitchens at high end theme parks that are about to open.

For pretty much everything else, same situation. You can't suggest or argue with the leader. He stands firm behind his decisions but has no actual support for them. I even started mapping a replacement Rotunda and Kitchen for them. He refused to use it regardless of how good it looked.

The rest of the team was receptive to some positive changes/fixes or idea. The leader of the project couldn't even create a proper Raptor Pen. It didn't even have stairs to access the platform.

Anyway, I started my own mod for Source engine. Had some issues with brush/grid limitations, so I moved to CryEngine 2.

Let me add to this because there's a lot more reasons.

* The leader of Jurassic Life stated his mod would only be in french, voice acting wise. English would be text captions, and I think the text captions for English was only after forum suggestions/complaints.
* He said he'd be using techno music for the game, if I'm not mistaken. That is just disgusting. My suggestion in this case was not a good one I admit, cause I told him to use music from the movie... but he could easily have someone make some classical style music, Jurassic sounding/style. Well it looks like he may go that route finally after 2 years, since one of his updates had the JP theme in a sorta classical style, but to be honest as a critic here.. and I'm sure you'll agree if you hear it... it sucks.
Sounds like the guy who made the track was using a cheap casio or free crap SF2s. Doesn't sound like a real orchestra, or even a decent faked one.

Point being, his standards are low. And that would be ok if their progress was faster. But for having such low standards, it sure takes eons for them to make progress.
When did their mod start? Oh, 2003?
When did the Visitors Center map demo come out? 2005.
What year will it soon be? 2010. I settle my case.

As soon as my Visitors Center is textured with a few props, they will be outdone. Completely.
5-7 years of time for them to be where they are now.
This Fall/Winter is our official 2 year anniversary. We've had some rough bumps along the way, almost died a few times, but we're actually close to our goal.

Jurassic Life is shooting for a full SP campaign, and only has probably 1 campaign slightly done out of what they planned would be like 5-8.. can't remember the exact number.
At this rate, they'll finish it all by 2020. Perhaps some nostalgic nerds will still be playing Source by then, but I doubt it.

Hmmm, ok I didnt knew that.

I only saw the screenshots and a video on youtube about their Visitors center. From what I read in their forums I had a different image of their project. I would make some compromises if the rest would end up good, though. They said they want to make maps as big and explorable as possible, kinda worries me because of the limitations of the Source Engine. Maybe things will speed up if they use the Dino-AI and animations from Dino-D-Day-mod, one member said he'll look at it.

Maybe its just the fact that I still dont want to give up my dream of a well made Single-Player-JP-Game. But meanwhile as you I'm not very optimistic to see a release of JL.

G.A.R. Nothing that is said here is true. I promise you that.
Chris. That is so low. Fist you backstab me in our own forum with pretending you want to help us only to sniff around, show off, call us names and then I see this much later for no reason. I was really wishing you success with this game. Thanks for spreading false rumors and lies around and now I know why people ask silly questions in our forum. Thanks alot. :|
Source is not simple ether btw. We always bump into bugs that need to be sorted out (takes time). And we have never hidden the fact that nowadays we have a small team and some don't have the time like before. So the mod is taking a long time but we simply just don't drop it. We certainly don't hype it ether. We want to make a game. So please focus all your energy on making a your mod instead of behaving like you do.

You wanna change the engine?

Hey, just an idea! Why dont emerge with the other JP-mod Jurassic Life on Source-Engine! You once said they take forever to finish anything, but I think they are still working on it after all and wont stop it so soon.

Maybe it is possible to use some of your artwork or finished models on Source Engine, like compiling it or whatever, I dont know.

But at least one big team would work on one good Jurassic Park Game and finish it, and it would be Single Player, wich is the dream of every JP-Fan to be honest!

Not really doable, due to the differences between assets - primarily poly count, and textures. A lot of stuff would have to be redone, and HL2 isn't exactly... the best kinda engine for this type of game.

Theres other engines than Source. ;)

Maybe, but there is already a very processed Jurassic Park mod using the Source-Engine, and the models and maps as far as I seen on the screenshots are looking very good and its Single Player, and they are still not dead, so why dont concentrate all the work of all teams on one project??? Maybe this is the only way to get finally a good JP-Game-experience, wich should be the dream of all JP-fans!!!

Do you see how our Visitors Center looks so far?
And do you notice a difference in accuracy and resolution with theirs?
Its boxier, pointer.. and the rotunda doesn't look anything like the movies. It is also plainer, more bland.

That is because Source engine uses brushes, brushes which have extreme limitations in regards to modeling. All faces are planar, so screw proper vertex manipulation.. its all done with box modeling, and the grid cant go any smaller than like 1-3 feet, something like that.

I'm not going to bother working with that horrific engine.
It is 10x worse than CryEngine 2. I went to CE2 to avoid Source engine.
