Jedi Knight 2: Reborn is an HD Remake of the entire game using textures & models & custom animations, all recreated from scratch. The final version will include the single player as well as the multiplayer content/features of the original game.
Completely new mesh and texture with normal mapping. Created by Jeff Cheney (the_Farseer).
hey how do you go about the normal mapping on these things?
do you make a high poly model and then bake or are the normal maps made from scratch?
Normally (ha!) I use a program called Crazybump to generate normal maps from an image file. It works well for hard-surface objects like this. I create the diffuse texture in photoshop and then take that file (omitting the dirt, scratches and other misc stuff that shouldn't be in the normal map) and generate from that. Unfortunately I don't have the cash for a program like Zbrush or Mudbox... Thought I do know how to bake them from a high poly model, if I did have the software for it.
Try Sculptris, a free solution and works really well.
Great model BTW. ;)
How was I not aware of this before? Literally my life is complete now. I'm going to download this the second I get home from work. THANK YOU.
Thanks for the info
Im trying to see what fits for me when it comes to hard surface modeling like that.
I'd suggest that in your case you watch out for nDo2, there was talk that they will release a free version soon
I have heard of nDo2 but never used it. In any case, Crazybump works great for hard surface work and is extremely cheap and easy to use.
Shiny.
Keep up the good work!
Oh my gosh, these models look amazing!
Almost reminds me of the shock rifle from unreal back in the day.
