Infinite Space is a mod for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion!
Current version: 1.02 for SOASE:R 1.1

!! You may not use any portion of this mod without asking me first !!

New planet types more textures

6 new planet types will be introduced:

  • Hydrocarbon
  • Carbon
  • Oceanic
  • Rock
  • Forest
  • Ice Giants

Many more textures have been added for existing planet types, totalling over +70 planets!

Our own solar system

14 planets, planetoids and gas/ice giants from our Sol system are included.

  • Mercury
  • Venus
  • Terra (Luna)
  • Mars
  • Jupiter (Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto)
  • Saturn (Titan)
  • Uranus
  • Neptune

New planet bonus system

The new system (or logic, call it what you want!) I've implemented is pretty straight forward: you get into a planet gravity well and detect various anomalies on the planet (these are lvl -1 bonuses and are mostly negative). They will mostly affect Population and Planet Development, the rest, not so much!

Upon colonization, survey teams may or may not find lvl 0 bonuses, these range from negative to good i.e. mineral rich soil, biohydrocarbon algae, etc etc..
These will mostly affect population, trade and planet development.

Once colonized, you can scan (planet exploration) the planet for valuable resources such as Uranium, Palladium, ...
These resources will attract businesses according to how rare a resource is, Silica is abundant, so it will only attract a small group of businesses (i.e. increase planet population by a small amount). Uranium however is more rare, so it will attract more businesses (increasing planet population by a larger amount).

New envoirnments and rendering

New colored skyboxes are added, as well as a new starfield and starscape stars (the blinking stars on the background). The planet rendering has been changed so the dark side of the planet appears more realistic, creating more dramatic terminators. All planets have new icons, dwarf planets have small icons, normal planets medium size and gas giants large sized icons.

Scaling

All units and structures have been scaled down by 75% creating a much more realistic atmosphere, planets will look huge! From version 0.99b and on, the download on ModDb will contain 2 versions of the mod: Scaled and Regular.Regular is Infinite Space without the unit scaling, Scaled is the mod with unit scaling. Please note that the scaled version has some minor visual bugs.
I'm currently resizing the particles one by one, but as of version 0.99b, most of the important particle files are resized. If you can look past some of these minor visual bugs, you can truly enjoy Infinite Space as it is meant to be!

0 comments by axeldude on Nov 16th, 2012

A day after the release of Infinite Space 1.01 a patch was released to update 1.041 to 1.1 which included some new maps and could not be played because of the mod has not listed these maps in the galaxy.manifest.
This patch fixes a few things:

  • All maps from 1.1 are playable
  • Fixed missing strings
  • Some adjustments to the main menu screen

Please note if you play competitive maps, the planets from Infinite Space are NOT included, did not have the time to make templates for the competative maps. How to install:

  • Download the patch
  • Unpack the contents of the patch in the Infinite Space mod folder
  • Overwrite the files when prompted.

Et voila, enjoy!

Do you plan on doing anything about the size of the starbases? Kinda saddens me to see that they are the size of a normal capital ship when they should be atleast the size of a continent on a planet :<

I like the mod the planets look great. One problem though is that you should not have scaled units down as much as you did. They are too small i think add the effects look huge on them. Also you are messing with the balancing doing so because the effect ranges are the same so for example an ability that effects an entire group within range now affects the entire fleet, this is bad! although you could say the same for positive ability yes, except there are WAY more offensive abilities than defensive ones and they already effected a large enough area. So please reduce the size down to a less offsetting size. no less than 50%. although I do like the grander scale of the planets, I find it makes area abilities far too powerful compared to what they were meant to be.

Not sure how this mod really changes balance, but I will say that if he wants to make the balancing like vanilla while keeping the ships tiny all he would have to do is reduce the range on the abilities, although, that is quite annoying to do, easy enough and generally only takes 1 hour, but extremely annoying.

The decrease in range for abilities will be something for future releases (not the next one), I'll be releasing the next version tomorrow (0.99) and any future release will be done after the update of rebellion itself.

I have an old version somewhere on my harddrive, but it's pretty obsolete compared to this version, I'll try and find it and upload it on my wordpress.

hmm would it be able to scale the weapon effect and hit effects aswell.
Since the ships are 75% smaller all the effects seem way to large.
For example when a Laser impacts a ships shield and there is a blue flare the flare is usually much larger then the ship itself.
Other then that Scaling problem this mod is awsome and should be default

Yeah sadly there's no way of doing it bit by bit, if it was possible I would've done it a long time ago :( atm it's only the home planets :)
