Today is a big day for In Country:Vietnam as we announce our transition to a full-fledged independent title.
We would like to thank Tripwire Interactive and our past contributors for their hard work and support during the development of the modification. We would also like to thank those of you from the ModDb community who have been loyally following the project over the last few years. We will of course be moving over to IndieDb soon.
We can assure everyone that this decision was not made lightly, but was made unanimously and as development progressed we were able to thoroughly weigh up all of our options.
Moving Forward
We decided to choose Unreal Engine 4 for the future of In Country: Vietnam because it allows us to hit the ground running. With full access to the engine’s source code, as well as the terrific Blueprint scripting system, it is possible for us to prototype and design levels right away, whilst our coders implement the game's core mechanics.
We view this is an opportunity to flesh out our gameplay and realism features from the bottom up, and a move to a standalone title is our best path forward in making the definitive, Vietnam First Person Shooter.
What the Future Holds
As we look to the future, we may explore avenues to fund further development and expand upon our ambitious goals. We are assembling the perfect team to make that happen. Expect more in depth coverage once we know the exact route we'll take.
...
I was going to post a "Well, it just happened" Anime-style picture of a clown, hands near the head slightly laughing at the fact you're angered by this choice of the team.
But I couldn't find it and I realize it would took long just for me to draw it. I assume most of you guys are irritated because now In Country: Vietnam is going to be a paid product?
I assumed it was going to be a for-payment expansion/ DLC, myself. I'm just kind of bummed since I thought this would be a nice change of pace for the RO2 community while also providing a small stream of newcomers into the old WWII fronts.
This probably means we're going to have to wait longer too, but oh well. If it means a more refined product and it's what the devs think is best, then that's that. Best of luck to the team!
Second that:
...
Awesome, can't wait.
Does this mean that you will enter the Greenlight when you are ready?
i just had a nerdasam just build it fast because im already dying for all this BRING IT ON!
Will you guys be porting some of the assets you created in Unreal 3 into Unreal 4? If not... can you please release them to the community, it would be a shame for it to be wasted?
That said. I fully support your team's decision to go standalone, and hopefully make this game even bigger than we all imagined.
Sounds neat. But I mentally add 2 more years to expected release date.
I've been waiting so long for a good Vietnam FPS since the release of BF BC2 Vietnam, I'm sure as hell to get this no matter what when this gets released :D
Good luck for the devs, make this one epic.
Go for Vietnam: Unsung!
God damn it.
The main problem I have with this is when I pre-ordered Red Orchestra 2 they said mods would be free. Rising Storm was a mod then it became and expansion which made it not free any more. Now you guys are doing the same kinda thing. In a way I feel betrayed, but I know it takes a lot to make good quality games and that takes money. I still haven't bought Rising Storm kinda wish there were more rewards for people who preorded games. A discount would of been nice.
Tripwire always said that if Rising Storm was of a good quality, they would charge for the game; when the game eventually released, it was discounted for those who owned Red Orchestra 2.
There are other mods in production for Red Orchestra 2, and Tripwire still plans to add more vehicles, weapons, maps, and features.
Great news guys ! good luck !
Good luck, and God Speed!
I personally don't see anything good in this news. RO2 runs perfectly on my PC and I am afraid that them going to UE4 will mean I must go buy new PC (some parts of it at least) and I ain't got money for that. All the mechanics from RO2 were good I don't see how it can be made better. But it may be too soon to have a solid opinion on this, it's just that we haven't seen anything new done and now it may mean they must start all over again.
I heard that Unreal 4 is optimized much better than Unreal 3. It shouldn't make a difference for you.
UE3 Recommended Hardware Specs:
* Windows 7 64-bit
* 2.0+ GHz multi-core processor
* 8 GB System RAM
* NVIDIA 8000 series or higher graphics card
UE4 Recommended Hardware Specs:
* Windows 7 64-bit or Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later
* Quad-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.5 GHz or faster
* 8 GB RAM
* NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series card or higher
Naturally, UE4's Hardware Specs are somewhat higher.

untracked.
Hope i can just run the thing...
It's a dissapointment to see it come to this in a way, the modding is dieing out now on a scale larger than it should be. I was personally hoping to see modding going on for RO2 as the game itself has a really good potential, way bigger than Call of Duty 2 for it's time.
But then there's the thing about the modding of RO2 which I understand fully, it's a pain in the *** more or less from what I have seen, and if Unreal Engine 4 will ease it up, it's for the best to transcend to that.
I hope this project wont die for you guys!
Since you have switched to UE4 now I hope you will release your game for Linux as well.
Modding for Red Orchestra 2 is officially dead now. thanks. If this had come out for RO2, you most likely would have inspired others to mod for it.
But now you won't, and there are no real mods for RO2 now. As much as I want Grabenkrieg, it died long ago.
Did not expect that, but good luck of course!
I just hope its gonna keep being like Ro2.
I swear if theres no blood and gore and charred bodies I wont ******* buy this. Red Orchestra 2 was so different and realistic because it made you feel with the soldiers and have emotions from people losing legs, crying and screaming while slowly turning into a charred pile and when they were wounded with blood wounds on their body crying for their team mates to come and help, if thats not in the game then i dont see how this is supposed to be different from all the other generic shoot these emotionless robots without flesh and blood down like theres no tomorrow, theres not going to be any consequences or families and such either since they just die in an instant with an intact body games! But as I now game devs nowadays this **** is just gonna turn out like these generic games anyway since nobody really gives a crap about showing the humanity in soldiers nowadays.
I was hoping to not pay money for another mod. It seems that modders aren't modders that i've known back then. They now expect to get money from their mods nowadays.
Well, congrats on going indie and I hope for the best in your game.
Good luck then.
******* figures. I hope it turns out good.
please not another 2 years!
