Welcome to my mod. Since I've been playing Vegas 1 & 2 I've heard people complain that certain weapons in the game just aren't realistic. So I researched the weapons in the game and found... They were right! While I haven't adjusted characteristics like the steadiness (or lack thereof) of the weapons when being held or fired (yet, I just might later), I have changed just about everything else. WARNING!!! This mod increases the realism of the game, i.e. it is even more difficult. But since the game has been out for a while I thought people might be up for a little more of a challenge. I adjusted all the weapons to have characteristics closer to the real ones. Most weapons now have slightly better penetration. Weight and fire rate is also now proportional to the real weapon's. I took away unlimited pistol ammo. Movement speed is now proportional to the weapon's weight. Ammo carrying ability is also more realistic. Weapons feature realistic fire select options. Realistic silencers & more.

Vegas 2 Realism Mod v2.4.4 is here!!!

Due to popular demand I have completely revamped the shotguns. They now have more realistic recoil, damage, range, penetration and pellet spread. The lower damage is balanced out by the tighter spread. Good for run and gunners with decent aim. Especially good against tight groups. Aim for the head!
I may be jumping the gun here, but in anticipation of Beck Defense's upcoming release of the .510 Beck round and a complete upper for the AR-10 and SR-25, I have now updated the Knight's Armament SR-25 Mk11 Mod 0 to fire the .510 Beck. This round has nearly the energy as a 7.62 NATO but at subsonic speeds and with a big heavy bullet that just keeps on going. One drawback is lower capacity, but it is still worth it.
I removed the 3-round burst from the MTAR-21 (Thanks to Jose21crisis on Moddb.com for pointing this out.) and changed the name to CTAR-21 to more accurately reflect the weapon model in the game. Also pointed out by Jose21crisis, the HK XM8 is being used by the Malaysian military and could potentially be purchased by Rainbow.
I also made a few minor tweaks in the game that should make it even more enjoyable. Happy gaming!

So I picked this game up recently, played it through with my uncle on the coop. I played it like back in 2008 or something, thought it was cool then.

Playing it now, I see that armor is completely useless.

Where in the game files is armor located? I'd love to make the armor actually matter, as well as add armor to the head......

I get armor isnt magical, but good lord....it stops nothing.....modern armor can stop some shots, but not in this game....there is no differnce between 0 or 10 armor...

You can't change how armor works in-game. IIRC light armor (1-3 bars) reduces damage by 10%, medium (4-6 bars) is 25% and heavy (7-10 bars) is 35%. No armor to the head. That's hardcoded. Which weapons are one shoting you? the 7.62?

Jose is right. You cannot change the armor. What I did in my mod was to tune the damage range so the it matched the armor. Light armor is like Class II and stops most pistol rounds. Medium is is like Class III and Heavy is like Class IV. Most Class IV armor uses ceramic plates that are designed to stop four 7.62mm rounds. The Heavy armor simulates this as well. The way that armor is set up actually works out to be fairly realistic. Armor stops the bullet from penetrating by spreading out the impact. So you still get hurt even if it doesn't kill you. I hope you like playing Vegas 2 better with my mod!

Loving the mod. Definitely deserved a good review.
I have encountered some issues though.
If I have armour on and pull out my pistol, I suddenly turn into Usain Bolt. Feels a bit weird, and I often have to stop myself from abusing it.
Sometimes I also have inconsistent speed when running with average armour and and smg.

I also agree that the shotguns are overpowered. They've been causing a lot of problems for me.

But all in all this mod is brilliant.

Glad you love the mod! Unfortunately the Usain Bolt syndrome is caused by the game only recognizing the weight of the gun you have in your hand and not any that are holstered. It is most noticeable, for example, when you switch from the 20+ pounds FN MK46 LMG to the HK USP at under 2 pounds. It's like suddenly loosing 20 pounds! I've tried to to work around this, but I have not found a solution.
Check out the new patch for the mod! I completely revamped the shotguns. Let me know what you think!

I'm going to be honest, the shotguns are completely overpowered. Realistically, most forms of armor (from the light level IIa to the heavy level III which are the levels I supose are on Vegas 2) can stop buckshot, however on the mod is one shot kill even on heavy armor. Buckshot also has poor penetration due to their shape and low velocity. Maybe making the shotguns use slugs, but I don't think is posible that change. The XM8 is actually the Malasyan version made for Malasyan Special Forces, despite not being acepted by the US. The bigger the accuracy number, the more inaccurate a weapon is, how the FAMAS is less accurate than the MP5 is beyond me, unless it is like the auto aim variable and the bullet spread is what adjusts accuracy. The X95 doesn't have 3 round burst as far as I know. Also, there is a subsonic round that the SR25 called .338 Whisper, which would be the same as your 7.62x51mm subsonic round, but with the proper name. It would take an armorer to chage the SR25 receivers and use the .338 Whisper round, but if they can make an USP40 be a USP .357, they can make that change. Also, there is no way to make the tangos not having unlimited reserve ammo?

Hey Jose21!
I agree and so I have completely redone the shotguns in the latest patch for the mod. I did test it however and you were probably getting headshots. I shot several heavily armored guys in the chest and they did not go down. The problem I found was that the pellet spread was ridiculously wide. So I fixed the spread and did a bunch of work to make the damage more realistic. I hope you like it! Tell me what you think!
Again you are correct! The Malaysians did order XM8s. I have corrected that in the readme. Thank you for reading it. I also took away the 3-round burst for the MTAR and noticed the in game model was actually a CTAR. So I also corrected the description in game.
Yes. There is the .338 Whisper, but is only has about half the energy of a standard .556 round and about 40% more energy than a subsonic .45 ACP (or about the same as a standard .357). So I've been following the .510 beck and decided to put that in instead even though it technically hasn't been released yet. Even it's subsonic round sits between the 7.62x51 and the 6.8 SPC. And with a tungsten carbide core, it just keeps going. It's fun when the enemy follows one after the other. It give a whole new meaning to "two birds with one stone".
I also double checked the accuracy of the FAMAS vs. the MP5 and there you are mistaken. The FAMAS is much more accurate. Is it possible you were shooting them in full auto? There the MP5 is a bit more controllable due to its lower recoil and fire rate.
I have not found a way to take away unlimited ammo for the enemy NPCs. I think even if I did they might get stuck when they ran out of ammo. They probably didn't program for that. Sorry.
I hope you like the latest version of the mod!

Hi, first of all, it is amazing that you are still working on this mod, I appreciate that. Second, what I mean with "FAMAS is less accurate than MP5" is the size of the reticule. I read somewhere that the bigger the size of the reticule, the more likely that the bullet hits the target. So IIRC (haven't playerd with this mod in a while) the MP5 had a bigger reticule than the FAMAS. Although I could be (and I'm probably) wrong.
Anyway, thanks for continuing working on this mod and for answering my quistions

In the original game that is correct. I believe this was a mistake. They also had other crazy things happening like the accuracy being worse when you crouch and better when you shoot from the hip. :-D From my perspective, it makes more sense for the size of the reticle to roughly represent where your bullets could land. So in my mod a smaller reticle = more accurate. I would love to get rid of the reticle entirely, but sadly that is not possible. Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad are enjoying the mod!

There used to be a bug that would do this, but it may have been taken out in the update. I do not have access to the part of the game that would let me make that change. Sorry.
