No, it’s not a joke, and no, we don’t really hate mountains.
“I Hate Mountains” is the name of a Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 campaign made by three French friends. Be aware that this campaign is built the Valve way, we are not trying to revolutionize anything, we just want to provide more content to this awesome game. The campaign is divided into five different maps, just like Valve did with their own campaigns in Left 4 Dead 1. The difference is that ours is entirely nature-oriented, there’s only a few building and most of the action takes place in outdoor environments, which is a challenge to build in itself. We also focused our development on offering a better re-playability by providing several long alternate paths in the levels that can totally change the way you play it.

This is it! No, we ain't speaking about the Michael Jackson post-mortem movie but about the Left 4 Dead 2 version of I Hate Mountains subtly dubbed I Hate Mountains 2! We are hereby releasing the 1.2 version of both Left 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2 versions of the campaign.

It certainly took time, almost 8 months... At the beginning, we honestly thought this port would be a piece of cake, but we just couldn't figure how difficult it would be and how life would change for each of us following the release of the first version. Between missing content, broken features, crashes and unexplainable issues, we were really this close to give up during these last months.

I Hate Mountains 2 Poster

To be entirely honest, the 1.2 version for Left 4 Dead 1 was already finished for a few months (since august 2010 to be precise), but due to a huge lack of motivation (we're working on it for over 2 years now) and Nicolas' departure who decided to move and directly hate mountains in Canada, we had almost stopped the Left 4 Dead 2 port. But finally, we decided to keep going on when a Polycount manager asked for an interview and fresh news about it. We realized that some people were still waiting for the Left 4 Dead 2 version and we didn't want to disappoint them.

We worked hard on it and we managed to fix everything we could. But despite all our efforts, some minor issues remain unsolvable as of today. Those are actually listed on the I Hate Mountains forums and in the README.txt file included in the download. But you should still be able to play the Left 4 Dead 2 version in quite an optimal way compared to what we thought would be achievable. We really spent a lot of time to test the campaign with a fellow French gaming team which allowed us to fix plenty of unusual and rare exploits.

Finally, You should keep in mind that this new version of I Hate Mountains is really an exact port of the Left 4 Dead 1 version. We didn't spend much time tweaking the maps with the new available assets, but above all we didn't change our specific art direction (it's still dark). By the way, we thank Valve for the last DLC for both games that allowed us to use the old survivors in Left 4 Dead 2 and to preserve the true spirit of the campaign.

The best update to L4D since it came out. This is what L4D was suposed to be, and updates like this (fanmade or others) are what was suposed to keep the game alive. This is definitely the best fanmade campain, and it surpassed my expectations by alot. Hell, it's even better than some Valve campains.
Graphics are good, the level designs are incredible (the second level is really great), and so far I have found no glitches or bug at all!
A must-have for any gamer, especially L4D fans! Keep up the good work!

Merci beaucoup, c'est vraiment un mod exceptionel! C'est rare de voir des Francais faire quelquechose dans le monde des mods, et vous avez vraiment reussi! Bravo!

Very impressive you guys. Beat it on normal just to get a feel for the level and I really, really enjoyed it. I got lost a few times because I was used to the traditional one-way-to-go L4D that valve set up, but this was definitely a refreshing take on the series. I hope positive things happen as you all deserve to work in industry.

Just finished it, great level design huge environments really make me feel out there in the Canadian mountains somewhere. Excellent lighting and rain effects. Basically everything graphically was great. Really enjoyed the few scripts in game too.

Only problem i have with it and every l4d campaign, the lack of cinematic's and story telling. Or way more objective's besides hitting a switch. Like gathering food,

Damn you did it again, lure me in with an excellent trailer, and make it sound like you've worked hard and made a great mod. But just like with prelude, you disappoint and end up with a horribly unbalanced, poorly tested (got caught on chopper debris a few times during the infinite spawn(REALLY?!) chopper crash and zombies can pass through walls in more than several places across the campaign, including the floor of the rescue vehicle)

It looks pretty, but that's about it.

This is the most ridiculous thing I read all day. So basically, because there's two bugs in the WHOLE campaign, it's poorly tested? You've got to be kidding me, trolling is an art, and you don't get it.

When I run it on my computer it seems quite a bit darker than the screen shots. Do I need to do anything to supplement the release notes, or is it just a matter of setting my gamma?

Fantastic job from what I have played.

Tweaking the gamma should do it I guess?
