Actually, the opening animation could be done, but it'll probably take space, you know, each doorknob'll have a different anim, the code to bring you to the exact spot to be in etc. I mean look at Mirrors Edge. Its 7 GB in total.

Dude, this IS lowpoly. And no mapper, no matter how good, can make a good brush-based handle. A REALISTIC brush based handle. Besides, this is also very low-poly. But the mapper can choose what he want. I'll use this.
May you could use bonecontrollers for the movement... just a bit of coding...
True, but first of all, every anim would look the same, two, it would be fairly hard, and not worth it, to capture the easing, and slight "bounciness" of the handle.
