HRT 1.4 is remastered graphics modification for GTA: San Andreas; a project of full textures replacement. Also mod includes improved models and other features.

Mission of the mod — to provide a more modern graphics with preservation of original game atmosphere.

One of main HRT (HRT means high resolution textures) features: textures are maximum similar to the original ones! They adjusted for colour\contrast of original textures, based on author's photos (and textures from open libraries) and made in high quality and high resolution.

Features

  • Replacement textures of the whole game world (buildings, objects, roads, landscapes etc.) to high quality analogues;
  • Replacement textures of all interiors to high quality analogues;
  • Replacement textures of all vehicles to high quality analogues;
  • Textures in HRT 1.4 are made in perfect quality and high resolution (2048x2048 and 1024x1024 pixels);
  • Textures are maximum similar to the original (first texture and graphical mod for GTA: San Andreas with this feature);
  • Textures are exclusive, made by author and based on his photos, or taken (not stolen) from free libraries;
  • A lot of models also are improved and enhanced: some models more detailed and smoothed, on some models added reflections. In some cases are corrected defects of the original models (first texture and graphical mod for GTA: San Andreas with this feature);
  • Using more materials than in the original game: for example, if the original house model using same texture and for roof, and for wall, in HRT 1.4 and wall, and roof have an unique textures; mod has more variety textures for ground, pavement, grass and roofs than original game (first texture and graphical mod for GTA: San Andreas with this feature);
  • Redrawn textures with logos and billboards;
  • Improved main character model with detail fingers (player parts are moved from version of the game for mobile devices, released in 2013);
  • Most of LODs are replacing too, for more quality displaying objects on the far distance;
  • Using of MIP maps (this optimization reduces the load on the graphics card and helped to get rid from blinking of textures);
  • High stability of the mod;
  • Completely author's mod, fully an independent project, not collection of other mods..

I am pleased to report that work with SFe section, the penultimate section, on which divided San Fierro city, is finished.

Below you can see selected screenshots from last ones, that I published.

It took too much time, much more than I expected. Just think, I started to work with it in 2013. I must say honestly, I do not think that this state of affairs is normal. Of course, plays a role a very huge scale of the game, it is very massive and have a lot of textures. I have a lot of other reasons (and I am not complaining), including hard drive crash (recovering of data saved a lot of things, but not all; anyway, I am very glad). Development of the mod was not very fast in 2013-2014 in my opinion.

Maybe you are thinking, what does it mean — back in Los Santos.

In 2011 I started to rework game textures from Los Santos. I did section by section, than switched to second city, San Fierro, and did all the sections except the last one. I was working with San Fierro for a long time and now I want «change of scenery». I could select between move to another city (Las Venturas) or do that, that I postponed to later.

That is bringing whole the mod to one level of quality. Now I am doing textures better then in 2011. And although I'm still learning, and through the years of my current skills also seem to me insufficient, I cannot allow the mod to be with different levels of quality, this is like game with graphics from 2015 on some levels, and graphics from 2011 on other ones. In HRT all must be on one and high level.

Because of this, I return to Los Santos.

Before I completely finish San Fierro and before I go to Las Venturas, there is a lot of work with Los Santos are waiting for me. When I looked at those textures that were made in 2011, I realized that almost all must be remaked.

Already promoted active work.

I decided that we need development map to illustrate and make more obvious on with area I working now, how look on the game map all these areas etc. I created technical map of the game location, where every area matches the name that has technically. Near every part of the cities I'll write as a percentage of work done there. Sometimes I will update the map.


You can check progress of the mod periodically. Also I'll write when I update the map, sometimes with screenshots, sometimes — no.

To summarize all what I did for all these times, since 2011, I created video.


About HRT 1.4


HRT 1.4 — is a global modification for GTA: San Andreas game by Rockstar Games that was released in 2004 (and ported to PC in 2005).

HRT 1.4 keeps the style of original game, but raises the level of graphics with using really high definition textures and improved models.

Mod will be released this year.

Flame, you sir are legendary! The work you're doing here is stunning, I have never seen such a good-looking, faithful retexture of an old game. This is living proof that the PC gaming community never forgets its classics. Please, take your time! Don't let anyone pressure you into making this come out earlier than it needs to.

Also, have you ever thought about adding more grass to some areas? Like Vice Cry did for Vice City, only not as exagerated.

What about grass. Maybe I'll do this. Also better grass is often part of vegetation mods. We have few good trees mods for SA (I am prefer Project Oblivion), but I still do not know what I must to do with them for HRT (redone manually, include one of the third-party mods, or even be better without new trees).

I have two more things I wanted to ask you. Since you're the only modder who's ever had any luck porting mobile fingers to PC, have you thought about doing it for the other characters, too? Or maybe you could share your secret formula for porting them? By the way, it'd be cool if you did like Deus Ex: Revision and put some other fixes into your mod. Like SilentPatch and GInput.

I think adding more grass to areas would be a great way to hide the low-poly ground those places have. Project Oblivion looks pretty awesome, but to be honest I don't think it's up to the standard of your other textures.

Also, have you ever thought about using resources from GTA V? The Skyboxes and such would look amazing on SA. Especially with a PS2-ish timecyc.

Actually, not only I have ported fingers from mobile version. :) With characters there are more difficult situation, connected with models format, but on GTAForums I saw that and characters were ported (I do not think that this is so important, but I can later include them with permission of author who ported them).

I like SA sky system, later in HRT 1.4 will be really beautiful sky; it can looks very good with good timecyc and textures (there is screenshot from my Autumn Sunshine: Moddb.com ).

Maybe I'll use some GTA V textures, this can help me a little. But they will be modified, because this is not "GTA V in SA" mod. And anyway, part of my textures is much bigger.

That sky looks gorgeous! You're completely right, it can look amazing with the right mods.

I can't find the mod with the fingered characters, though. I did find some retextures that Navetsea made that look pretty awesome, though. They'd look even better with fingers to go with them.

Also, you're 100% right. Also, I think the PC version of GTA V should help you retexture Los Santos as well as the Las Venturas desert! You could add some cacti to the desert to add some variety, too! It would look neat. I can't wait to roam around the countryside again with your mod ^^
