Introduction
The FX Mod is a modification for Homeworld2 led by the 9CCN Team, a group of Chinese modders who are known for their work on the popular Gundam SEED modification.
The goal of the FX mod is to bring back all races from Homeworld1 and add a ton of changes to the current Homeworld2. Examples include new units, special abilites, textures, maps, player modes and more!
The current playable races are the Hiigaran, Vaygr, Taiidan, Kadeshi, Progenitors and Turanic Raiders, each with their own advantages, technology tree and units. The Bentusi are currently being developed and are said to be 'three races in one'.
The current version of the FX mod is v1.81 - New Hope since it marks the beginning of adding all long-awaited features like military ranking system, re-textured ships, fleet color support, Single-Player campaign and more.
Even with the amount of awesome changes that have been made so far the creators say the entire FX concept is done for 50%. Many people have marked this mod as their favorite modification for Homeworld2 when v1.72 got released, and it only gets better!

The path to FX v1.82
The first release in the v1.8x series came in the form of FX v1.80, a Chinese-only version the community had been getting its hopes up for based on the huge list of new updates that would be introduced in this version compared to v1.72. However, when v1.80 came out after nearly waiting for half a year it was a huge disappointment. Several promised updates were left out, others were buggy and didn't work properly whilst others didn't seem as awesome as earlier screenshots implied. Therefore, v1.80 was considered more as a private beta for the FX Community rather than a full public release.
The latest release of FX dates back to the 5th Febraury of 2008, when FX v1.81 was released. This version, nicknamed 'New Hope', marked the 'real' beginning of the FX v1.8x series by introducing several new abilities/features for the current races, as well an English translation. Some of these features were buggy, while others seemed to ruin the overall balance for the race it belongs to. As a result, the team has been focusing on removing/fixing the new abilities/features and said the solution to the problems they caused would come in the form of FX v1.82, the next scheduled release in the FX v1.8x series that is centered about further debugging the new features and abilities found in FX v1.80 and FX v1.81. After nearly 4 months of waiting, we've finally received word that FX v1.82 is on its way.
About FX v1.82
In the forum post made by Sajuuk at our community today the release date and further explaination of the new 'Power Supply' feature for the Progenitors was included. Again, we don't have an official confirmation by the development team itself yet, but as Sajuuk has been involved with one of the developers several times before and never was posting false news it is more than likely it is true.
- FX v1.82 is said to be released next week, which is in the period 23-29 June 2008. This is the expected release date, there can always be some kind of delay which results in the actual version being released 1-2 weeks later.
- The new Progenitor unit that was expected to be a platform and was seen in several screenshots here, here and here turns out to be a 'Pyramid' that is made for balancing things out. They are generators and energy level seen at the top right in several screenshots represents the construction speed of the Progenitor race.
I.e. if the level is at 130%, the construction speed will be 30% faster than normal. This also applies for the research speed. However, if the pyramids are destroyed the production speed will fall and you won't be able to build anymore.
This is a way to counter the slow and expansive build- and research times of the Progenitors, but once that comes with a price. Protecting these generators will now be a priority, without them your fleet has to survive while you rapidly construct new ones.
Overview
Last but not least an overview of all features that have been posted and thus are likely to be included in FX v1.82:
- The Kadeshi Crystal Unit system (Cu) is a new feature for the Kadeshi. Weapon upgrades now require additional crystals besides only resource units. The amount of crystals you have will be displayed right next to your RU bar. How these crystals can be obtained is yet unknown. The icons at the top left are the concerning technologies that use this new feature. Upon hovering over them you see the costs for the concerning technology. If a technology has been researched, the icon will light up. If the technologies can be researched by simply clicking on them is unknown.
- The Turanic Raiders will have a new unit that the news entry lists as a 'Heavy Frigate-Class' unit the Turanics stole from the Imperial Taiidan while it still was unused.
- The Progenitors will have the power supply feature as explained above.
- Several bugs with the new abilities/features found in FX v1.80-FX v1.81 will be fixed.

whenever i play my scren is nothing but white, the user interface is there, but everything else is white
i have a nvidia fx 5500 graphics card.
this applies on all maps, custom or stock homeworld 2
Try opening the shortcut and going to the command prompt and deleting the -refresh 85 line.
Okay, seriously, what the fuck did you guy's do with the unit cap? Before, it was in the high 200s for almost every type of unit type. However, when I installed 1.83, it goes back to a low count in general. Much to the style of Homeworld 2 unit count. I will not upgrade to 1.83 for this lousy low unit count that you implemented and I recommended that no one else do the same. I'm disgusted that you guy's did something like this. Who the fuck wants to play with low unit counts in a mod?
I suggest you do what Ivory_Guard says first before bashing the mod. It at least makes you look as if you have the intelligence to present issues in a professional manner instead of posting useless rant. I don't take similar posts serious, the same goes for the people who post it.
On a side note, why do you think people would take something like 'I recommend no-one downloads this version it sucks' serious from someone who can't even explain his issue in a proper way?
High unit caps lag the game terribly, especially with six different races who all have their own ships. I have been playing ever since v1.711 and the unit cap has always been the same on its respective setting (low, normal or high).
If you don't like the mod, simply don't play it. There are numerous other mods out there. I highly doubt if the FX development team would change the mod just because one person does not like it anyway.
Long story short: Look around, be intelligent and try some things first before posting rant. I only take issues presented in a professional way serious.
Thanks for understanding and have a nice day.
Go to skirmish. Then switch from deathmatch to Homeworld 1 skirmish, or something along those lines. Then set unit cap to highest, that will get you back the obscenely high unit caps. And dude, chill out. A question always works better than a rant.
So is this finished?
All stuff scheduled for v1.83 has been included and thus is completed, but only 50% of the entire FX concept has been realized so far. There still is alot left to do, so don't worry about running out of new versions to download anytime soon ;)
Answering to your second question, it has been confirmed all ships will be retextured/remodeled. The question is when it will be done. But I do know it WILL be done eventually.
Cool. Thanks.
What I mean is, are you going to do some retexturing for the Taiidani ships?
