Hi everyone! In one word, I am a n00b. I don't know how to modify anything except txt, even though I've been playing Homeworld series for so many years...Homeworld 2 is the summit of this series and I love it very much, I've been dreaming to have my own mod for Homeworld 2. However, I am a n00b. A n00b is someone who doesn't know anything about extracting big files or editing models in Maya, or everything else told by other modders which trully puzzled me. I actually thought that maybe there would never be my own mod for Homeworld 2.
Then, many years later, a mod gave me a hope. I downloaded Homeworld 2 Complex 8 beta 0.9, and found it completely decompiled and could be edited in NotePad... I was so excited that I couldn't wait to edit it in my own way.
So, regarding my first attempt to create a mod for Homeworld 2, don't be surprised if you find me ruin the epic Complex mod, which could be the best Homeworld 2 mod ever... (As a n00b, I've played almost every Homeworld 2 mod listed on ModDB.) Just regard this as a n00b's practice (with NotePad), and this is the story of a n00b...
Finally, give all my sincere thanks to the Complex team, maybe I would never know how Homeworld 2 works if I hadn't met this mod, let alone modifying it by myself. For the reason that I must type a name for my mod on ModDB, I decided to call it SIMPLE, because my works are too simple comparing to the source code of COMPLEX...

NOTE: This mod has been permitted by the Complex team! That means I'll keep studying and make this mod better, and sure you can download and play it! Thank Beghins and Baroness1 for their kindness and enthusiasm, thank the Complex team again! You can visit the Complex program at www.homeworld2complex.com and www.Complex.mastertopforum.com

For a long list of all the other contributors I also want to give great thanks to, click here

As a beginner in modding Homeworld 2, I sincerely appreciate all your work; As a player, I feel an even stronger compulsion to thank you for your contribution to the Homeworld game, because it is you who are keeping this game alive, and that's the greatest gift you can give to all the Homeworld lovers like me! Thank you! Thank all of you!

I can't see any problem here, have you tried another map?
Refer to the Troubleshooting section in the PDF, and try to clean your data folder (if you have a folder named "shaders", delete it)

There must be something wrong with your game, did you have v1.1 patch correctly installed? And have you installed any non-big-file-type mod before? Or is your Homeworld 2 a normal version (not any portable or repacked version)? If all the troubleshooting instructions in the PDF manual don't help, you may have to reinstall the game. To ensure full functionality, make sure you have the complete English version of Homeworld 2.

Just an idea, could be cool to have a resources base. Its sole purpose is to hold ru's and enhance the mining effort. its cool having the scavengers but they take up valuable officers. something like the orbital station but with ru container upgrades. maybe even different types that can do different things. could also have bigger ru collectors that have beam weapons that cut in to the asteroid like in eve than have a mining contain attach its self to the back to collect from it?. up to you if you want to give it a go. I think it would be cool :)

Resource Collectors can't have any weapon, otherwise the game will crash.

RU base is a good idea, the problem is I don't have proper models for each race :s

just playing through the campaign, its awesome. I just have one question regarding performance. I have followed the suggestions in the guide, however my performance is rather poor. In some more intense battles im dropping to even 9fps when zoomed in, which is very weird given my specs:

cpu core i7 2.6ghz
gpu geforce 675m 2GB ddr5
ssd raid0

I have killed all the extra features like AA in the nvidia control panel, even lowered some ingame settings, still performing rather poor (lower settings did not have much imapct). From what I can tell it looks like the improved FX (shooting stuff) are really demanding as most drops are with all the particles being shot around. Am I missing something in the settings or is it just the way it is?

Again, this is because HW2 doesn't support multicore CPU. 2.6GHZ i7 is still lower than some 4GHZ single-core CPU (which can certainly improve your game performance as someone reported).

However, it also depends on the situation. What mission are you currently in? If you are in the early levels, the game should run very smoothly; if you are in the final levels, the game certianly can be slower, because it's way too epic -- there's always a tradeoff between game performance and epicness.

I don't think you need to turn off AA or lower other video settings, your video card is more than capable of handling this. The primary limit for HW2 is always the CPU.

temeleen Jul 24 2014, 10:05am replied:

thx for the reply. Yeah I know it does not use multi core, just wanted to give the right specs. Anyway with built in OC tools i have in my PC i am running the game with 3.2GHz clock. I am currently in the last third of the game, so it makes sense - my unit cap is almost reached.

I played around a bit and it seems that setting higher afinity to HW2 process does help so im getting something like 12-16 fps lowest, which is still not much, but its playable. CPU is obviously the bottleneck here as the camera and GUI responses are fast, also when paused my FPS rockets sky high.

Anyway I just wanted to see if theres something i have missed in settings, which I apparently did not :)

btw is the capital ship thruster always on a feature or a bug? With small ships theres a limited amount of afterburn, but with larger ships (friggates and above) its always on and never depletes. Its kinda funny to see how fighters are so desperately trying to catch up with cruisers with no joy :D

siliconworm Jul 24 2014, 3:31pm replied:

Yes, unlike small afterburners, big 2nd Stage Thrusters can propel the ship continuously (at a huge cost of energy for capital ships). However, most small fighters and corvettes can still catch up with the fleeing capital ships, if you fully upgrade their afterburners (the refilling rate and burning efficiency will all be dramatically improved)

This is an awesome mod, specially when all you want is to overkill your enemies with DAKKA and Overpower lol. No really, i like this mod, i love the intensified number of weapons in every ship, however i dont like mods that focus on blowing up everything to the hell using as main feature Overpowered ships and weapons. Since i'm a strategy and tactics lover and i like much more when the battles are prolongued and my units suvirvability depends of the orders that i give them and not by the number…

The Graphics or this mod are great to look at but when it comes to playing it feels like just a giant troll, with crazy lag, ships "swimming in space and large capital ships moving faster then the small interceptor class ships. If the game breaking lag and troll effects like the "fishes" when taken out or worked on the mod could reach a 5 in my book.
