"In The Grim Darkness Of The Far Future There Is Only War" Warhammer 40k is set in a Universe where no one is safe from the horrors of space. The Imperium of man struggles to hold its borders or protect its citizens from the the alien, the mutant and the heretic. The human race is no longer a progressive race, most of the weapons and vehicles they use date back to the "Dark age of Technology" long before the days of the Emperor. Technological advance is at standstill and much has been forgotten, never to be recovered. In this dark millenia danger lurks behind every corner, and it is the holy duty of the Inquisition to guard and purge the threats within and without the Imperium. Take the role of Malachias Kane, Young Inquisitor under the command of Lord Inquisitor Dante, warring agains the notorious Chaos sorcerer Bathomeos. It is your mission to rendevouz with allies, and deliver the final piece to the plan to bring the Chaos scum under the Emperor's hammer.
Hello again servants of the Emperor! (And you hairy heretics too!)
I've been having this modeling inspiration block for sometime 'cause I haven't been completely happy with the Space Marine model we have..
So I got around beating the bush and got myself to fix the damn thing. So far I've modified our human base model to look more spacemarineish to help me figure out the shoulders and adjusted the torso a bit to give the arms enough room to move. Gotta say, modeling working shoulder joints isn't the most easiest thing..
Anyhuw, here you can see how the marine is proportioned.
I know that it is just a bump, but can you at least pixelate that area? We don't want people to get the wrong idea.
Also, are you planning on adding Gore and Multi-layered character models?
are you implying that people would dare think that about the emperor's finest?
HERESY!!
well theres a reason why we dont see Spess mehreens with any offspring, even the chaos ones who indulge themselves all the time
There, wouldn't want people to get funny ideas here.
Multi-layered models would be awesome. Im just not sure if we are capable of such feats just yet.. If we ever want to get the mod done anyhow.. :p So somewhere in the future perhaps, but with this mod, unlikely.
Do keep in mind that the actual shoulder joints are going to be hidden behind rigid shoulder pads from practically every angle, so it really doesn't matter how they distort during animation.
When I was making my marines ( Moddb.com ) I found I needed an extra bone, parented to the upper arm to control the rotation of the shoulder pads though.
Thanks ChromeAngel! Means a lot to us that a heavy series modder such as yourself pays attention to us.
What you say is true, the shoulder pads do hide almost all distortion, except the ones showing when the Marine rises his hand and that's where my unhappiness lies. Just can't get over it before it moves correctly. :D (Marines are my favourite in TT and 40K lore so gotta make 'em right)
For the shoulder pad we too figured the need for additional bone and in the first rigging test it did work pretty well. Actually those arms are almost good enough, but I wanted some more details and such to show.. :S And they're a "not nice woman" to rig.. :D
