anyway on the other side of that base there is a road that leads off. So the base isn't surrounded at all 4 sides by cliffs anyway. You're probably right that's one of the reasons why I hate out world mapping. :D

Any ideas what I should add instead? (goes for everyone)

Well I can't say anything about the cliffs, I too can't make them better myself! Maybe Nec can helo you with that. As for the buildings, i like the textures but maybe you should add some pipes and vents on the outside of these buildings just for them to be more "complex". And the front building really needs some windows or some lights on it.
Other than that i really like this map! And i too hate outdoor mapping...

The building in front already has 2 lights on top of the doors & signs. It's hard to see in the screenshot.
