INSTALLATION
- Rename, move or delete any previous installation of History Rewritten
- Extract the downloaded archive (7zip)
- Move the resulting "History Rewritten" folder to the correct location (see below)
- Done!
For clarity, the location you need to install History Rewritten is the same place that all the mods that came with BTS are located; Gods of Old, Road to War, etc. This location may vary a little on each system but the correct path should closely resemble one of the following:
OS X:
- /Applications/Civilization IV/Beyond the Sword/Mods/
- ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword/Mods/
Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Sid Meier's Civilization IV\Beyond the Sword\Mods\
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods\
Note that BTS has TWO mod folders; one in the same location as the BTS application itself and one somewhere in /Documents/ or \MyDocuments\. History Rewritten will NOT work if installed in one of the Documents locations.
It will also fail to run if the folder is renamed. It should be named "History Rewritten" with no version number appended. Also be sure that your unarchiving software has not 'double-nested' the mod folder - there should not be a History Rewritten folder inside another History Rewritten folder.

Known issue: Opening the city screen for a city that generates no culture causes an undismissable error.
I've got BTS v3.19 and the starting screen displays no words. How can I fix that?
Make sure BTS is set to English. I'm unable to support other languages at this time.

disreguard my last comment, so i checked my mods folder but it was empty, despite all the bts mods working and functioning, and when i put in hr, it doesn't appear in the list of mods in game. is this because i have it as an amazon download? for example in the games folder, it lists civ 4 and bts as seperate games... do you have any idea why it isnt working? thanks
Well, if i could delete my last 2 comments i would, i've got the mod ready and figured out, but i need to update my civ to 319, im at 317. But every download i've tried looks like an installer for the game, and then crash before i can install them. do you know how to get 319 to work?

Hi Xyth, I've been trying to get this to run on my Mac, but it freezes at the loading stage: it doesn't go beyond "Init XML (uncached)". I'm running it on Yosemite (and I did implement your Python fix) - any ideas?
Hmm. That stage can take a bit of time, sometimes up to a minute, but if it is frozen it's usually because an error message has popped up somewhere. Check if it's not behind another app or on another space or something. Regardless, it's probably an installation issue, check this thread for solutions: Forums.civfanatics.com
