heXen:Edge of Chaos will be a new and free game, based on the original Hexen game which was developed by id Software and Raven Software. Edge of Chaos is being developed by a team of fans who have always loved the original Hexen since it came out. In fact, most of us spent countless hours with the entire series. When id Software released Doom3, we immediately saw immense potential in the engine itself; the 'Hell' maps gave us the inspiration to make a hack-and-slash game based, primarily, on the original Hexen.
Guys , I think what you've done here is quite impressive.
You've taken an aging engine and turned it to your advantage , rendering picture perfect recreations of the original Hexen environments and creatures. Hexen fans like myself will be welled up with nostalgia.
The movement feels satisfying and the weapons pack a punch. You've done a great job of including all of the original hexen inventory items - all the flasks and so on look identical to their old school counterparts , with the added benefit of a loving 3D makeover. Probably the most amazing thing is that you've fully translated the atmosphere of the old hexen games - a bleak, hellish world with touches of mystery and magic. This is no small feat, and for this you should be congratulated!
With all this praise, surely there is some criticism I could level against the demo ? Well - yes, there is. Sadly you have fallen into the trap that many modders who attempt single player adventures make. Your autosave / load system is terrible. I was happily plodding along bashing imps and making progress when I accidentally stepped on spikes about half way through a level. I simply assumed the game had checkpointed my progress before I entered the area with the spikes, but to my dismay - it hadn't - and I was forced to restart from the very_beginning of the game. This ripped me out of the experience and reminded me I was "just playing a mod". Equally poor is the UI for saving / loading games. It is not clear what button does what and it's all too easy to load a game when you are in fact trying to save a new one ( happened to me twice!).
Despite these flaws, I am really enjoying your work and I hope you will continue to improve upon it and add further content. I'm frankly stunned that you have released anything , let alone content of such high quality. I have been following your progress for several years now, assuming this would be yet another vaporware nostalgia project. You've proved me wrong.
What I've seen of this mod so far I really like. I've noticed a few glitches here and there but I imagine those will get worked out as the mod is more complete. I had some trouble getting doors to work right as it would take a few times trying to get them to open. Also as someone else on here pointed out the monsters need to have gorier death animations like the original Hexen.
Great work so far and I can't wait to play the rest.
This mod was awesome. I love the atmosphere and the combat. Made me feel like I was playing a next gen version of Hexen.
The only problems I noticed was the player move speed which was too fast and the sound effects. The breaking barrels sound terrible and a lot of other sounds were very bland.
Other then these 2 flaws the mod was awesome. Nice Alpha.
I recently obtained Doom 3 because I already heard of this up coming mod. Basically I bought it to play this mod. And oh boy, this is definitely Hexen. The quality is absurdly good and not only that it re-creates the atmosphere of the old classic Hexen series. I my self who enjoyed Hexen as a child in the past couldn't ask for more.
It scares me that this is just a demo, and it is most likely just a little sneak peek as to what is going to come. This modification is going to blow us all away and I look forward for the full retail version.
The only problem I encountered in the demo so far was that I accidently died forcing me to play it all over again. But this has already been mentioned by a previous reviewer. I also seem to walk straight to doors before they are even opened. Despite these little flaws it is worth the effort for downloading and I personally will keep my eyes peeled for updates and news regarding this modification.
I thank the team which is working on this more than a thousand times. And you may expect many players to enjoy this as much as I do.

any ideas on how to fix this?

I have downloaded the Classic Doom 3 allready, but am still getting the same error codes and im not sure were to get the ''no-CD'' patches from.
