HELIX is a First person shooter source modification created by my brother Xyius (aka Exos212, akA Mr.Data :P), and me, Xyos212. Its emphysis on originality graphically is advanced source mapping, modeling, and texture art. Our goal is to make this look as realistic as possible, but still run at least at 40 FPS on an average machine. (HDR disabled will compensate alot of FPS problems for the low end machines) The gameplay is still being drawn up as we create content. The setting, story, and weapons are all done (in concept) and ready for mapping/modeling, etc. So far gameplay will be as follows: Round based, decent HP so it takes a bit to take an enemy down, Unique movement abilities to vary gameplay, and more little tweaks to the way you recover HP, deal damage, and destroy the enemy. its not the modeling that so bad.. i mean yea its not so great but.. its the texture! daaaamn like the guy said above its like shiny concrete and dont just texture the sides.. but get all angles done !

ur maps are good dont let the models bring it down

This is the world model, not the V_model. Bevelling edges and raising the poly-count does not bid well for a World model. As for the shinyness and concrete look, its because of the envmapcontrast vmt line. Its been removed and adjusted.

As for the weapon itself, the v_model version will look alot better obviously, but the generic shape will remain the same.

Im trying to show as much progress on the mod as possible. Xyos finished it and had some time, so he took some screens, and put them up.

Removing the blocky look will takes minutes, but some parts are supposed to have hard edges.

Remember that everything is WIP. Mostly everything posted is because we want feedback either because we dont like how it turned out and want suggestions, or just generic opinions. Alot of the work you wont see is models/textures we completed and will not be displayed until the maps they reside in are complete.

Ya hey fellas. Finally registered at Moddb. Ive already toned down the reflection and bumpmap on the gun, and started working on the v_model. It wont be much different though, I was going for a bit of a blocky look. Im all for bevelling, but some things you want blocky :) I was going for a starship troopers with a twist. :)

I will be keeping the grungy look. Its supposed to be a wartorn weapon, so it will have scratches, bumps and rust.
