Heart Of Evil Napalm Edition
Jun 28, 2009 Full Version 29 commentsOK guys, this is what you've been patiently waiting for! Heart of Evil Napalm Edition is released today after 2 years of development. Heart of Evil Napalm...
Heart of Evil: Napalm Editon (HOE NE) is a remake of the original Heart of Evil. Heart of Evil was an enjoyable Single Player modification that truly gave the player something different - "a Single Player Half-Life mod that accurately and sensitively depicts the American 'experience' in Vietnam, right down to the laces on the zombies boots.”
HOE NE will let veterans and newcomers alike relive that experience. They put a lot of work into the original concept and we want to it endure. For that reason we updated the mod as best we can. The source code was released publicly February 1, 2007. Shortly after, we started development. By shortly, we mean months.
HOE NE features updated Models, skins and animations; revitalized Maps with new effects, visual improvements and altered gameplay; tweaked NPC and weapon code.
This is a community project. That means it’s not for profit. All work will be properly credited to its respective owners. This is not a Source project/port.

After a long wait by members of the public (and the dev team) comes the release of Heart of Evil Napalm Edition! This mod is a total conversion for Half-Life, offering players the chance to dip into the crazy world of wartornzombieinfested Vietnam. A lot of work has gone into developing this mod, so we hope that you'll all enjoy it!
For players new to Heart of Evil, you are placed into the boots of Special Forces officer Captain Percy Freeman, who is tasked with despatching the villanous (and extremely mad) Colonel Kurtz. Not long after beginning your mission you are betrayed, and forced to find your way to Kurtz on foot.
Along your way you will have to deal with rogue US Soldiers - apparently they think you're a traitor, and have been tasked with hunting you down. Not only are there US Soldiers after you, but also Huey helicopters! These Helicopters are deadly since they have front gunners, side gunners, rocket launchers and the ability to drop off troops. You'll will need to carefully plan their movement around a Huey helicopter in order to take it out with an M79 or RPG-7!

After fighting your way past rogue US forces, you come up against the uglier side of war. Unkillable zombies! Or are they? Any sort of explosive will kill a zombie, anything less than that will knock them down momentarily.

Like the original Heart of Evil we have kept the vast free roaming environments, but we have made the puzzles within them more straightforward, so that backtracking is kept to a minimum. Objectives are clearly marked with glowing markers, and the levels are also considerably easier to navigate.
We would like to thank people who have been watching the mod so patiently - we hope this lives up to your expectations! Saddle up, lock and load and head into the world of Heart of Evil...

Please make a different ending because the original one is really dissapointing and make tasks and objectives more obvious like make an NPC tell you "Hey! There's a barricade there! You need this and that to blow it up." cuz like half of the game I was running around with no idea what to do neither what should I look for .
I think this is a pretty good remake, I find the new visuals astonishingly good and the gameplay proves to be enjoyable.
I didn't like the changes made to the ending, though, it felt too short and kinda uninteresting. I attribute that comment to the fact that I had my whole arsenal with me by the time of the showdown, I...
!!SPOILER ALERT!!
... simply walked to Kurtz, chopped his head off and took control of his zombies, then we pretty much owned the choppers with all of those explosives I was carrying with me. The end. If I remember it correctly, in the original Heart of Evil, the player loses all of his weapons and has to rely on the the super zombies, as well as on the very few guns he manages to find amongst the remnants of the camp to down the choppers. I was also kind of disappoited when I discovered that the alien space ship was replaced by a temple; I was very eager to see that ship redesigned in glorious HD.
Oh, and one more negative note on that ending: for new players, it could be very confusing, we never do find out what happened to Barney after he got captured or how did Kurtz manage to take control of the zombies, new players also won't get a good explanation as to the origin of those parasitic freaks. I was lucky to have had played the original mod before, I knew what was actually going on (well, sorta).
So anyway, thanks for making (remaking?) this mod! It was thoroughly entertaining. Sorry 'bout the wall of text. :P
What about patches? 4 month left...
I ran into the problem with Barney being stuck near the boat, but I noclipped through the cave-in he's standing in front of and another section of the map loaded. After heading back, Barney was no longer stuck.
there's one glitch, text in boxes that open when you read documents in-game doesn't display properly, usually top part is missing. my version of half-life is the latest, i run the mod on steam. anyone know what might be going on and how to fix this?
this mod was a disappointment.
I like how people back up their opinions with meaningful pieces of evidence, just like you!
Meh. honestly the mod i felt was lame. It was buggy as hell, terrible voice acting for certin parts ( the opening with the fat guy, he barely spoke english), other parts with Barney ( what an origional name) headbutting doors open, and finally, an ending that confuses the hell out of me. oh, and you took the fun out of zombies......
This is more of a joke mod, they meant for all of it to be like this, can you really take this kind of mod seriously?
Need some help. I picked up Barney from the room full of crates in the main foyer area. where do I go from here? Ive been running around looking for where to go for about an hour total. I'm assuming I have to go through the door that leads to the north outpost but I cant get it open.
