The (Hard Core Tactical Mod) is a total conversion mod for Call of Duty 2. In this mod almost every aspect of Call of Duty 2 has been re-done in some form or another to take your Call of Duty 2 single player gaming experience to the next level. This mod is not intended for those looking for a shooting gallery type gaming experience. But if you’re looking for a real challenge and intense battles where tactics actually come in to play, then this is the mod for you.

By now we all know how this ends up, but it always bothered me that the player went into battle unarmed in the Pointe du Hoc mission so I gave him an M1 Garand and a Colt 45 to carry on the boat ride up to the beach. In my opinion it looks much more realistic this way.
It would be realistic, then again, I suppose the reason the Devs put the player at the start without weapons so you'd be immediately drawn to the Springfield lying in front of you when you regain control, and thus start to snipe the Germans on the top.
But like you said, it'll be nice to have a backup weapon at the start, if the Player is a particularly terrible shot.
@Zaravan. Actually the Pointe du Hoc mission doesn't go off script. The opening scene has been re-scripted so that you carry your weapons on the boat ride up to the beech like the rest of your squad mates, but you still lose your M1 Garand in the explosion that happens right after you leave the boat.
So once you are rescued by the medic, you will still be immediately drawn to the Springfield. But there's a bit of a plot twist. Since the Springfield would have been dropped by another soldier; it will now have a random amount of ammo in it. So you may still have to find another weapon to get through the mission. It all depends on how much ammo the Springfield has when you pick it up.
