Sins of the Prophets (SotP) is a total conversion mod for the PC game Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion that transforms the game into a Halo-themed experience. It's a real-time space strategy game, focused on empire building and space combat. Huge fleets of ships clash in the gravity wells of planets, asteroid fields, and massive structures. Our mod redresses all of that in Halo garb. In a match of SotP you could defend Reach from the Fleet of Particular Justice, discover a massive Forerunner structure that gives you advanced technology, then amass a giant space empire, only to lose it all to the Flood. The skirmish style of the game allows for some of Halo's sandbox appeal to translate well into the mod. The space combat is brutal and fast - an element of the Halo story covered well in the books, but hasn't yet been fully realized in a game or film.
This project has been accomplished in part thanks to its many dedicated QA Testers, who have over the length of it's development, assisted by reporting countless bugs, discussing issues, responding to tasks, and playing the game consistently.
Quality Assurance Technicians, or QA Testers, perform a vital role on the team. They test, tune, debug and suggest the detailed refinements that ensure the quality and playability of the finished game. They play-test the game in a systematic way, analyzing the game’s performance against the designer’s intentions, identifying problems and suggesting improvements.
Playtesting has been vital to the development of Sins of the Prophets since her inception. However, we've recently hemorrhaged so many QA Testers, that our internal "Playtester Corp" is at risk of dissolving - leading to SotP development being stalled. We desperately need the help of SotP players who have a strong understanding of the core gameplay, how unit balance is interconnected, as well as a deep love of Halo lore (and a legal copy of the game). If you're interested in becoming a playtester and helping us build the next release of SotP, you'll find a list of questions below that you'll need to copy and paste into an email, write responses to them, then send the completed form to:
Please note that playtesting is not all fun and games - you're getting early access to newer [read: incomplete, sometimes broken] internal versions of the build, for the price of lots of your free time. This is unpaid work, and it is certainly work, as we'll be asking you to play all current factions, potentially in ways that you may or may not find fun; including testing competitive multiplayer balance in matches with other testers, or specifically focus your efforts on particular bugs or balance changes. We take development of the mod very seriously (though we love to bullshit during the process) and you should only volunteer if you feel passionate about the project, and won't lose interest in a short period of time. Fair warning if you do apply, expect to write a lot if you're selected.
