Just a thought... maybe it should be rotated on its side so that way the ships don't appear as though they are flying through the ring of the structure. Also w.e the forerunners happen maybe they could use similar devices except on a smaller scale ( like the vasari's phase portals that allow them to instantly move from point A to point B).

since this apears to be a gravity well sized object I believe they are going for the "jump in over the ring itself" kind of entrance.

Isn't a true Dysons sphere (at least 1-AU in radius) theoretically larger (I mean the real ones like the geth are building in Mass Effect, or the Borg Homeworld, or the Forerunner shield worlds .... well true shield worlds they must have had them they are too bad *** not to). It just seems that with the Ark, High Charity and the like that these things existence arn't completely unfathomable are they ... or am I just way over thinking this.

Keep in mind that the Ark portal on earth was able to be built on a planet, such that it was around the size of a large city. This is tiny compared to other forerunner installations. So, think of this as the Ark portal, but in SPACE

These portals were used to transport whole fleets during the Human-Forerunner conflict.

OH I'm impressed by its scale, no doubt. We are talking something that is probably 200-300 thousand kilometers in diameters (20-30 times the radius of our planet) and since it is made of condensed illuminal fields (Hard light) it probably has very little mass for its size and power enabling movement on a scale unattainable by humans or covenant ... well covenant anyway humans will figure it out. You guys always do ...

Description

The Forerunner Slipspace Mega-structure.
Its engineering constraints are unfathomable to Humans and Covenant alike, as it exists on a scale no other construct can compare to. Stretching across the entirety of a gravity well, it is more than wide enough to have entire fleets jump into its center. The resulting chaos of those engagements is impressive.
