In maelstrom there are planets that have animations besides just the rotation of the planet. Wish someone coulc figure out how to make turrets and ships have their own animations.
The only known method of creating animated models is using custom particle effects. There is one mod that attempted it - I believe it was a Babylon 5 mod, but don't quote me - but I believe the conclusion was that it's too CPU intensive in a game which already lags in the lategame.
this mod has been in Dev forever looking great but whats gona suck is Rebelion will come out before this mod does so you may have some editing to do if ur gona put it on Rebelion

Sins is hard-coded so animations are pretty much non-existent. The only real animations are basically particle effects.
