Maybe you missed the part where the Pillar of Autumn was a upgraded Halcyon class utilizing experimental technologies in a desperate bid to capture a Prophet utilizing every single remaining Spartan-II.

It sadly got caught up in the Battle for Reach before it could start the capture mission and most of the spartans were deployed to protect the groundside generator for the SMAC platforms protecting Reach. Hence why the Chief is the last spartan.

Point is the Pillar of Autumn was mostly a one-off refit of a Halcyon intended for the most dangerous mission the UNSC ever planned to (Purposely) undertake!

Actually, Chief ISN'T the last Spartan: if you read the books AND played (or researched) Halo 5, you'd see that, in fact, a portion of the Chief's old team actually survived (the books explaining how, the game proving to those 'books aren't canon' schmucks that the team members ARE alive canonically). Furthermore, there ARE more Spartans than THAT alive as well...Granted: while it didn't WIPE OUT the Spartans, the Battle of Reach DID wipe out a significant portion of their numbers...

I'm aware, I was mainly approaching how to explain about the Autumn without going into a full breakdown regarding the events in the books & other non-game material. I've read most of the novels so I'm actually quite up to speed.

I especially loved Halo: First Strike, especially since it answered the lingering question of how the F**K Johnson survived the Autumn's Fusion Drive overload & explosion. That and the events leading up to Onyx and the acquisition of the Forerunner tech that would wind up in the Infinity...

We've decided to redesign our Halcyon-class Light Cruiser! Malcontent1692 had the following to say about why this was decided:

"The design of the new ship was heavily based off of an image used to depict a Halcyon on the Halo 3 map: Orbital. It looked considerably different than the Halo 1 design, more like a stripped down Halo: Reach Pillar of Autumn, which makes a lot of sense.

It was our interpretation that this style seen on Orbital may have been Bungie showing off an image of an un-upgraded Halcyon-class, and such a design transitions way better into the Halo: Reach PoA than than Halo 1 Halcyon does. Therefore, even though our old Halcyon is a good looking and classic model, its design has basically been de-canonized in nearly all media after the first game, with the vast majority of Halcyons after Halo 1 looking either identical or similar to the PoA.

With that in mind, this is going to be our new Halcyon-class model! Textures are already underway and should be ready for public eyes very soon."
