A Halcyon could probably still tear through those. I'm assuming that because there are two types of turrets they're not as strong as the standard Gauss platforms?
Well, any UNSC ship could give them a run for their money in the right if they are not close to them. As soon as they come into range (especially as there are usually quite a few stations) its over.
Of course, with the Gauss platforms, you're basically a target as soon as you're on the same side of the planets its on.
Since the UNSC has never sieges a Covenant world I don't think it's been mentioned. Them having relatively weak static defenses would make sense though since they are rarely under attack.
I think the need for defense platforms is just to keep game balance and is purely for SoaSE purposes, I mean the Covenant player doesn't need to build them, but they're there just so that player doesn't necessarily need to keep half his fleet to defend a planet.
OOh, i hope u guys plan to keep pirate raiders in...i'd lol even harder if they keep the tec ships :D... but i've grown to like pirate raiders for reason of they are cap ship exp that comes to me and puts up little resistance :D

instead of the covenant being just godly at every single aspect of combat :P

well the covenant could just get boosts for movespeed, both in system and when jumping.
The Covenant will have a sufficiently faster jump, but the UNSC will have faster sub-light engines.
i know the covy could jump into slipspace to avoid archer missiles and teleport behind unsc lines,will that be in there? or..as a cap ship ability?
I could just imagine Captain K. Ship ripping through those Defences with impecable Ease
if he stays at range.. he could, other wise, like posted above, its over if he gets close
