Description

A monstrous weapon of terrible power, the installations were designed by the beleaguered Forerunners to stop the flood by the only viable means: starving them. To that end, it required depriving them of all sentient life in the galaxy through a powerful wave based weapon from the Halo array. Ironically, the rings were also capable of supporting a full range of biospheres for life on its inner surface.

The event of rediscovering the forgotten rings some 100,000 years later was the catalyst for the series of events in the original Halo trilogy, effectively saving mankind from an untimely extinction.
