Ever since Halo: Combat Evolved opened with the descent of the Pillar of Autumn toward the alien ring world known as Halo, the vehicles and spacecraft of Halo have featured heavily in the plot, setting and cinematic of Bungie's masterpiece series. While the games had followed the UNSCDF's fight from a ground-side perspective, there was always the back drop of war with the Covenant waged on two fronts; while the troops of both factions clashed on the ground, their monumental warships fought for supremacy in orbit. Kilometer long vessels battled their counterparts in titanic, decisive conflicts that often decided the fate of the planet below them.

We bring you the chance to experience Halo from space, in orbit and among the stars. In Homefront, you can command warships that stretch for kilometers and field dozens of weapons. Build nimble frigates which dip and weave in combat against their counterparts and strafe larger ships. Construct heavily specialized carriers able to dispatch dozens of fighters or drones, or explore more atypical, exotic weapons.

  • Play as either the slow, steady and economically minded UNSC, or the heavily armed and aggressive Covenant. Both sides will be asymmetric to each other, providing a varied experience.
  • Play on maps featuring key Halo locations and backdrops - Earth, Sanghelios, Reach and even the Halo rings themselves.
  • New UI features, new music, new voices and new ships - We intend to replace as much as we can from the vanilla Homeworld 2 experience to bring you a total conversion worthy of the Halo universe.
  • A tailored, well rounded game - Our vision isn't simply to bring Halo to Homeworld 2, but to make a game that is fun, balanced and within reason. The mod is based sometime before the fall of Reach, so will not include any new UNSC tech post Halo 3. Furthermore, there will be no playable flood or Forerunner faction.
  • Revival of multiplayer and competitive gameplay - While we do provide an excellent AI in skirmish, our goal is for Homefront to be played against other individuals. To this end, we will be supporting an online player community as much as we possibly can. This also means that we do not currently plan on a campaign, but will not rule one out in the future.
  • Ship designs and unit choices that are more dictated by gameplay than simply following canon for the sake of canon. HHF is Halo based, but if we feel like we can improve on something, we will try our best to do so in a manner that stays as close to established lore as possible.

The remastered collection adds a plethora of new features to the franchise, including normal map support, better ambient lighting and higher poly asset control. Sources from PAX South say its one of the best looking games they've ever seen! An official trailer was released by Gearbox, which can be seen here. The differences in quality is night and day.

Enjoy a few screenshots from the official site if you haven't seen them already. Homefront plans on supporting the remastered, which means the classic version will soon be nothing more than a legend. The pre-sale on Steam is 15% off so buy it before it rises in price. Not only does it come with the remastered versions, but the classic version and multiplayer supported by Steam as well!

The refitted version have a MAC, Archers, PDF guns and Deck guns. Plenty of guns I'd say. So why could it still not be used as support vessel?

Well look at it this way, it took on broadside with a covenant carrier and the whole ship went to ****.

The spirit of fire has less firepower then a marathon and even less armor, its also bigger and more cumbersome making it an easy target, why would you even want one?

This isn't warlords, we aren't adding ships in for the sake of being able to fly them around.

The Halcyon is also weaker but the Autumn took out 4 covenant cruisers over halo with i'ts single mac. And landed on halo more or less intact. And that was a refitted ship.

well, the Halcyon's honey comb design was disbanded before the Covenant War, but happened to be the best at deterring destruction by plasma.

Plus it had Cortana firing that MAC. And she's pretty beastly

The Spirit of fire was a refitted version. But I think in the mod the ship would be an early cruiser.

Or some sort of heavy carrier, if you have read Genesis, then you know that the SoF is capable of engaging and destroying Covenant vessels (look at the part when the SoF is trying to save the Prophecy, near the very end of genesis).
Since the only info we have on it is from the SoF itself, we don't know if the Phoenix classes have any more roles.
It could have hardpoints like the Supercarrier (a smaller number of hardpoints) so it could repair ships, this would give it a support role, i think it would fit as an heavy carrier, or as a heavy cruiser with support capabilites.

This isn't up for debate, we aren't adding ships for the sake of nostalgia. It is not a ship designed for heavy weight engagements. I'm sorry but we aren't going to include it.

Ok, but the ship in HaloWars wasn't the covenant carrier or the covenant destroyer.
They're both said to be about 1400 meters long, so how can either of them be in Failo Crap when the spirit itself is said to be 2.5 km?
It simply doesn't match up, if it were an carrier or an destroyer, it would probably have been pwned since the spirit is like double the size of any of those two ships.

Unsure what you mean...You can't have a texture create it's very own geometry that doesn't contribute to the load. You can however bump map (as OJ said) textures which gives the impretion of false geometry because it reacts in certain ways to lighting. While it's possible to texture onto transparent geometry to create the impretion there are hundreds of little spines, especially for scenery, would you really notice them that much if it's goign to be a few hundred km off the side of the map?

Guys, even though I am really glad you got this update out, it it kinda disappointing..The mobile colony is severly lacking in outside detail, causing what little there is to look out - of - place. That being said, I still really like the idea, and the inside texture looks great. It just needs a little work.

The rear view of the mover looks awesome, but the front is again lacking in detail. Perhaps adding four engines (coinciding with the four little..um...things on the back) that start in the front with spice it up a little.

The kissing - squid - thing looks really nice, and I can't wait to see it texturing. The only thing is, well compare it to high charity. It has all these little protrusions coming out the spine. Could you add a few of those please?

All that being said, I wish to restate the fact that I really appriaciate the effort, and I do like these three concepts, despite my (hopefully constructive) critisism.

Only problem with putting the atenna/spine things on would be putting enough on to make them look right (Only having a few wouldn't look right) but putting few enough not to kill the poly count. Dependant on how they use it (Probably as a pretty far off megalith to the side of a map) putting enough detail to make it look like high charity may be hard.

Though i agree with the other two points.

1.09 Release: As I said before, the HHF have done a superb job with the Ships, they are highly detailed (The Blast Windshield, the Marathon Hangar Animation, etc) and beautifuly textured (Seriously check the frigate textures are Awesome). New ships where included, the new model of the Prowler (Reminiscence of the Normandy from Mass Effect), the Marathon class cruiser, the Thanatos Destroyer, et al. Gameplay wise, it´s still a beta, however, playing with the UNSC has been so far smooth, and not buggy…
