Ever since Halo: Combat Evolved opened with the descent of the Pillar of Autumn toward the alien ring world known as Halo, the vehicles and spacecraft of Halo have featured heavily in the plot, setting and cinematic of Bungie's masterpiece series. While the games had followed the UNSCDF's fight from a ground-side perspective, there was always the back drop of war with the Covenant waged on two fronts; while the troops of both factions clashed on the ground, their monumental warships fought for supremacy in orbit. Kilometer long vessels battled their counterparts in titanic, decisive conflicts that often decided the fate of the planet below them.

We bring you the chance to experience Halo from space, in orbit and among the stars. In Homefront, you can command warships that stretch for kilometers and field dozens of weapons. Build nimble frigates which dip and weave in combat against their counterparts and strafe larger ships. Construct heavily specialized carriers able to dispatch dozens of fighters or drones, or explore more atypical, exotic weapons.

  • Play as either the slow, steady and economically minded UNSC, or the heavily armed and aggressive Covenant. Both sides will be asymmetric to each other, providing a varied experience.
  • Play on maps featuring key Halo locations and backdrops - Earth, Sanghelios, Reach and even the Halo rings themselves.
  • New UI features, new music, new voices and new ships - We intend to replace as much as we can from the vanilla Homeworld 2 experience to bring you a total conversion worthy of the Halo universe.
  • A tailored, well rounded game - Our vision isn't simply to bring Halo to Homeworld 2, but to make a game that is fun, balanced and within reason. The mod is based sometime before the fall of Reach, so will not include any new UNSC tech post Halo 3. Furthermore, there will be no playable flood or Forerunner faction.
  • Revival of multiplayer and competitive gameplay - While we do provide an excellent AI in skirmish, our goal is for Homefront to be played against other individuals. To this end, we will be supporting an online player community as much as we possibly can. This also means that we do not currently plan on a campaign, but will not rule one out in the future.
  • Ship designs and unit choices that are more dictated by gameplay than simply following canon for the sake of canon. HHF is Halo based, but if we feel like we can improve on something, we will try our best to do so in a manner that stays as close to established lore as possible.

ok so I installed the game, and I think I'm up to patch 1.1 since I played the last version of the mod ok, put the files frigate.ico and homefront.big in the data folder, I make the shortcut, I edit the mod path so that there's a space and I put -mod homefront.big I start it up it goes to a black screen with a spinning loading curser, and then just goes back to the desktop, no report or anything so I don't know what to do thsi didn't happen to me before, so how do I fix this?

I found the problem, so I have an ATI drive, which I knew already was incompatible, so I set my driver into a compatibility mode, this was like 3 years ago, but when I copied the shortcut it reset the compatibility of my driver for the game, dunno why but reasons, so I just had to make it compatible again, so it's an ATI driver thing in case of those wondering why this happens

Thanks for this information. Because Homeworld 2 is so old, legacy on certain vid cards tend to break. I know that most AMD machines have trouble running Homeworld 2 in comparison to nVidia machines. afaik ATI is still AMD, so that's most likely where your issues come from unfortunately. I've personally never had legacy issue with nVidia.

Glad you're able to enjoy the mod now. :)

Make sure your shortcut is set up correctly. Check your compatibility settings, run as administrator. If it was working before but isn't working now, try re-downloading the mod and make sure to put the big file in the data folder.

Love to finally see the Covenant in, good work guys :). I know this isn't by any means a finished mod, so I'd like to make a few suggestions for future releases in relation to balance. First, I think the Covenant at the moment are too weak. Their plasma torpedoes are very very slow and energy projectors barely scratch enemy ships. The most damaging weapon they have at this point is the pulse laser, which is a bit strange from a Halo cannon perspective. I think plasma torps should move faster, the pulse lasers a bit nerfed vs capital ships and the energy projector damage increased.

Plasma torpedoes are meant to be slow so smaller UNSC ships like the frigate and corvette can out maneuver them like in canon. I get what you're saying with everything else, though. The Covenant are highly experimental and once they start getting their steam train rolling, they're pretty hard to knock down. When we go back in for internal testing I'll see what can be done to make them more powerful without breaking the game. :P Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for your reply. I also have a few suggestions in relation to the fleet roster. At this point, there are many ships that share the same fleet slots and some are more powerful than others (I'm talking about when you play the game with Default fleet sizes). Let's take the UNSC for example: the Thanatos shares cap with the Orthus, Paris, Hermes and Charon and it's the most powerful of of the 5. There's no point why would anyone want to build the other 4 once they've researched the Thanatos. My suggestion here would be to have each frigate type have a hard cap just like some of them had in vanilla HW2:

- The Paris should be left uncapped as the first and baseline frigate
- The Charon and Hermes should be limited to 2-4 per type
- The Thanatos should be limited to about 8 or 10

Same goes for cruisers. I almost never build the Halcyon as it only has 1 MAC vs the Marathon's 2 MACs and it also has fewer deck guns. I think the Halcyon should take the place of the Talos (which I think is a too heavy hitter for it's purpose, it has 2 MACs that deal the same damage as the Marathon MACs and you can have 6 of them) as in the Halo lore the Halcyons (standard ones and not the Pillar of Autumn which was refitted) were considered weak in terms of firepower and were only useful because were more resilient due to the honeycomb structure of their hull.

Also, regarding the USNC, I love the ODPs :D. I do think they are a bit overpowered now, as they can be moved all over the map. I think they should keep their 1 shot 1 kill advantage, just like in the lore, but with probably shorter range (I can now easily snipe enemy CAS carriers from miles away and win the game) and make them single burn like vanilla HW2 platforms so they can't be moved all over the map all the time :)

Each frigate have their own strengths and weakness. For instance, you wouldn't want to waste time building too many Charon unless you intended to capture an enemy cruiser. The Hermes is an early game support ship that has anti missile and anti fighter capabilities while also armed with anti platform torpedoes. The orthrus has more archers armor than the thanatos but lacks the larger caliber gun. This makes the orthrus strong vs UNSC but weak for the covenant and vice versa for the thanatos.

As far as cruisers go, the halcyon is a bullet sponge and the marathon is DPs. If you're in a hole and need to play defense, you want a halycon. If you're pushing their base, you need the marathon.

Odp works like a siege unit and can only fire long range if it has a spotter. I agree it moves too much and I'll likely make both platforms a one shot movement but also understand at close range seraphs will chew through it like butter.

Hope this helps clear things up.

Highest Rated (25 agree) 10/10

1.09 Release: As I said before, the HHF have done a superb job with the Ships, they are highly detailed (The Blast Windshield, the Marathon Hangar Animation, etc) and beautifuly textured (Seriously check the frigate textures are Awesome). New ships where included, the new model of the Prowler (Reminiscence of the Normandy from Mass Effect), the Marathon class cruiser, the Thanatos Destroyer, et al. Gameplay wise, it´s still a beta, however, playing with the UNSC has been so far smooth, and not buggy…
