Turrets are definitely a new thing on a UNSC ship, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it, on one hand they're cool on the other hand it doesn't have a canon precedent.

What? Is it not possible the UNSC have turrets? I've never heard of any lack of turrets on any UNSC ships...hell I've only even heard of like 2 ships the UNSC have, and hell...one of them has turrets (Frigate)

You have to keep in mind how small the corvette is. It's far too small to mount MAC's, and it's too small to mount an effective number of archer pods (Heck frigate can barely do that), although it does use missles for engaging harder targets, it's main armament is turrets that are mainly designed to take down fighters or slightly larger ships, giving strike craft cover by doing this.

I like it, i think it just looks better with some turrets, it adds more personality to the ship.:)

So this one's essentially taking the place of the Higaaran gunships, then?
Does that mean we can expect some kind of antistarfighter frigate for the Covenant?

Well, in a way yes, how ever it is also intended to help strike craft with larger ships too with it's missle load out.

The turrets are awesome. Are they 15mm like the PoA point defense guns?

They're pretty large if you consider the size of a seraph to the ship.

Will this be the only UNSC corvette in the game? Or are you planning on adding the Mako-class at some point?

We were planning on having about 3 corvette types, it's likely atleast one more will be introduced at some point in the future, as we don't feel 3 are really needed.

I may be wrong here but I remember reading in the novels that UNSC ships have turrets, but they are AI controlled and weren't used for direct ship to ship combat. Cortana used the Pillar of Autumn's turrets in the book as I remember....On a sidenote, I've been keeping track of this mod for a long time and am happy to see the amount of progress made. Can't wait to get me hands on it.

I don't believe it's ever been specified they're AI controled, although AI certainly have the ability to co-ordinate PDS turrets. AI are limited in numbers, so despite there always being an AI in every Halo game, most UNSC ships don't tend to come with them, which would leave turret control down to either normal automation or manual control.

While the turrets are never described as being used in direct combat with larger ships, the original purpose of the wolfclad is just a patrol vessel designed during the period before the Covenant warand so would have been designed to combat rebels, pirates and policing duties. In game it would never be able to take on a Covenant frigate or something bigger, but that isn't it's purpose.

I always imagined the turrents as being smallish and there being like 20-30 or so on a single ship but i guess in my mind i wasnt thinking of the scale

The turrets give it some visual 'teeth'. On other ships, you can only see the tip of the mac gun and a few archer pods. Having turrets definately gives it some visual flair and a more intimidating look.

Description

Although rarely seen in larger fleet battles, the Wolfclad is usually deployed as a heavy policing vessel or garrisoned at less important colonies to suppliment frigates against smaller craft.

Usually found with strike craft, the corvette provides gunship and support capabilities to fighter swarms, mainly a support craft corvettes are never very heavily armoured, relying on speed and out-gunning it's opponent to come out ontop.
