So will you have several sizes of asteroid miners or will this one be the only one?

For now this will be the only one, though we plan on having research increase its capacity. The idea of having more than one miner is trumped by the way Homeworld 2 works. More miners are not planned, but it's a possibility.

To the best of my knowledge, the easiest way to make research change physical appearance automatically (without forcing the player to build subsystems) is to make the research unlock and reveal a new ship in the build menu while locking and hiding the old one.

Didn't know that was possible. Not sure how useful it is for this, but that could be interesting for the visual upgrades we wanted to impliment.

The problem remains, however, that the old ship is still present. Someone said it's possible by editing Deathmatch and putting in a line that checks research through sobgroups and then builds the subsystem. I'm not too big on coding sobgroups as I've tried before with little to no success (the old cargo crates idea was a flop lol).

The only problem is that if you have any ships currently then they'll be oboslete, but that can be countered by having them return for "upgrades", in that they retire and the new model comes out, no fee.

I hate it when I point out a problem and solve it in the following sentince... :P

You solved it in the same sentence. Even better, right?

It's possible that we might have different kinds however, things like retrofitted miners that sacrifice storage room for weaponry or smaller, faster miners that can simply out-run bigger ships.

...okay, I know this is completely missing the point, but Wikipedia says that "Tursiops" is a genus, rather than a particular species, of dolphin. Was that what you meant?

I said toothed dolphin. All dolphins have teeth as far as I know. :P

Tursiops is actually the name of the most commonly known bottlenose dolphin.

"probes it with its long hard drill"
No wonder it looks so much hotter than the previous model.

Description

To replace the ugly and over-sized pod/tug hybrid beast, the Tursiops (Named after a toothed dolphin just like the Narwhal. No seriously, check them out. They're weird looking.) sticks its face into the side of an asteroid and then probes it with its long hard drill.

So its no dolphin, but you'll love these guys. The Longhaul Miner is designed to flesh out our old idea of trade routes. Their cargo space is greatly increased over the pod so they can store more minerals just as fast as the pod and then make the long trek home not seem so long when you get that sudden increase of resource.

We had planned on having the cargo pods on the center area researchable space and have the pods auto built, but for now its there permanently.
