After further investigation, it is attracting light properly. :) I know about the gaps also, though.

Can't wait to see these new textures on all ships... after Thanatos is done, btw ;-)

How did you get the texture for the planet Reach?!?

It's not the texture per-se, though heavily influenced off of the official texture. The color pallet is based off of the map that comes in the Reach Limited Edition and heavy study of the hologram on Long Night of Solace. There's also the addition of oceans and clouds, too, as well as a normal map.

I think the ocean is too blue, though. It should be more of a seafoam green like in this picture compared to Earth, where it is blue like above:
Halopedia.org

That could also be because of the atmosphere, too, since Reach has a very weird magnetosphere. If you compare that image linked to the planet above, it's somewhat different in actual landscape detail.

The change in height from land to ocean is too sharp IMO (normal map). It looks particularly fake around the crater ocean and surrounding rivers/straits.

yeah I've noticed that as well. I was in the process of tweaking it myself, been trying to find a good grayscale in the bump to match all the land without trying for too much of a gradient difference.

Aside from the painted on lines/symbols on the ship's hull, the texture on the frigate looks fairly good, and the base texture doesn't look like it lost much quality in the transition.
Mainly, the lines and symbols look heavily-aliased, and the hull itself is a bit too shiny, so a bit too much plastic in the specular map.

Think he did something with decals to get the lines which might be why they look quite jagged

Don't know what you mean by painted on lines and symbols. It's obviously going to look aliased from that distance.

I like it. Both the map and the frigate. Any chance of the Super Mac stations getting put in the mod?

This new texture isn't going to slow down the game too much, is it?

It's a more optimised texture, so it should speed it up.

The original frigate had five 1024x1024 separate maps, meaning a total of 15 textures. This new one is a single 1024x1024, meaning only 3 textures excluding the textures for the decals, which are smaller and are shared across many ships.

Description

This new frigate texture is a single 1024x1024 texture. I'm not going to redo the other ships until the Thanatos is done, rest assured.

Also, pay no attention to the shiny marbles in the background.
