Our representation of Halo's iconic space combat in the Homeworld 2 engine, which puts the player in command of some of the most powerful weapons fielded by the UNSC and Covenant and to provide a balanced and competitive experience.
Finished it. Admittedly i think i ran out of imaginative steam towards the end so the left side isn't as good as the right in my opinion.
Only thing of real note is that the station is covered in cannon batteries and turrets, it'll essentially be completely invulnerable to early enemy ships (fighters, corvettes, frigates etc), and will have updates available that'll add guass turrets and heavy rail guns that'll seriously damage even late game ships.
The station will be irreplacable and will be the only ship capable of producing ship yards and fighters, justifying the heavy armament. Still, you'll want to keep it off the front line by intercepting enemy forces rather than letting them come to you.
Looks Massive, and quite imposing.
Very impressive, and personally I don't think anyone will be looking at the detail for too long so having one side a little less detailed isn't an issue. It'll still be the most important facility you have, not to mention one of the largest.
Awesome... now, rig it in-game :P
So what's the polycount?
42k *hides*
Though to be fair i'll bring that down. 10k of that is the PDS and their mounting turrets cause i did that really quickly and messily. The rest is easily modified.
You might want to consider replacing the X lattices with a simple 2D panel (similar to the "frills" on some of the edges on the Karos Graveyard slabs).
Yeah, most of the 3D detail will be replaced with sprite planes or triangular cylinders for the larger antenna.
Just deleted all the turrets and the count went down to 24k, so i'm gonna focus on optimising the turrets rather than the station model. Antennas will still get a work over.
youch that many poly's on the gun turrets. either those turrets are highly detailed or you have enough guns on there to take down an entire covenant fleet
i could imagine the right side being for capital ship production as well as frigate production and i am guessing that it is for producing anything larger than a fighter
The station, from what I understand, will not produce ships but rather repair them. Shipyards are for producing starships.
if i remember correctly anchor 9 was a shipyard but then again this is anchor 12 not anchor 9
From my understanding anchor stations are habitable stations around which other shipyards are clustered, so that the shipyards them selves can be highly basic and designed for their sole purpose alone. Anchor 12 has production capabilities as it's meant to be a deep-space station rather than an orbital station.
however if you fly around in the saber you will notice that there is a frigate being constructed on the top of the station i only know this becuase i have flown around so many times it is unbelievable but if you have a look there are actually 2 frigates being constructed not 1
Either building them or decomissioning them. Either way, Anchor 9 is smaller than Anchor 12 and was probably used like Velo said, to set up a small fleet of shipyards.
The station isn't "constructing" it in any sense of the word similarly to how the smaller frigate yards are - Likely the station is being used to keep the pieces in one place while smaller crews build it at a slow pace, due to the UNSC's desperation. The frigate yards have automated cranes and arms to construct them at a much faster pace.
sweet
I was just wondering if it can move, because it looks more like it should be stationary. If it can move are there thruster exhausts?
If it moves, don't expect it to go anywhere fast.
It can move, but as Zero said, not fast. The thrusters are on the side with the cylinders, you can see on the third picture in the corner i think.
Apparently i cut them off. You can see them in some of the pictures of the habitat section.
ah yeah I just had a look, doesn't look like it'll be a fun thing to move around lol. If I was inside it I would probably not feel to happy moving it, it looks more like it should be kept stationary which isn't a bad thing because hey its a mothership not a scout squadron =P
P.s. does this mean living quarters is the Aft end of the ship?
Living quarters are the large cylindrical objects.
Well, it's the end that the thrusters are at, but it's not exactly a ship, so i wouldn't use terms like that to describe it.
This is a fantastic looking model. And Zero has his work cut out for him. Does this mean we're closing in on the next release?
*me being selfish and wanting to play with textured ships and try all this new stuff!
Yes
This is ridiculously well done. Very good job, I love it. Also, is that a tiny longsword coming out of the hangar? Jeez, that station is massive!!
