Can anyone tell me how run Homeworld 2 in Win 7? I can't get mine working. It simply doesn't start.
hw2 works for me. idk if there was anything special i did. maybe a patch was released. or maybe i ran in compatability but the point is it can work
you need to run it in compatiblity mode windowsXP service pack 2-3
in the shortcut properties go to compatiblity.
Also run it as an admin.
Did both, with no effect.
Disable DEP.
That should do it.

Try a german crack, that solved the problem for some people.
if your using a crack update to 1.1 then use the german fixed exe.
also run as admin with xp compatibility and disable DEP. thats what i had to do! works a treat now!

ok here i go.. first of all what i have found out is that if youre running vanilla HW2 then you're gonna have no trouble on W7 BUT if you update the game with you have to for most of the mod then you need to do one thing, im not kidding around now but you need to download a german crack for the latest version.
i tried everything befor i tried that as a last resort.
in other words (as far as i know) disabling DEP dows not work, doing annything! in the compatibility window on the execute does nothing
NOTE: you may need to turn on V-Sync after you get the game running if the camera lags ingame (not graphical or performance lag but the camera will bearly turn)

This copy works. I had to try 3 different versions before i found this one that works.
"The file you have selected (HHF109B.rar) is not available via any mirrors"

You just have to be patient and refresh the page. Sometimes the servers get overloaded.

Guys, you shouldn't use Gamefront anymore, they have apparently blocked users from dozens of countries from going to their website and downloading/uploading stuff.

Well I can't choose what mirror ModDB uses.
If you're having problems, just try using a ModDB mirror.
Yeah, moddb select the mirrors, we just upload to moddb and they redirect it.
I can download it fine, I'm just saying that people from other countries might be having problems.
If anyone can't download from gamefront\filefront then they must start a help ticket with them so they can sort the problem out.I had it and they sorted it out... :D

I downloaded the mod BUT there is no "included shortcut" :( just an .ico file :( And I cannot get it to work
Put the big file in the data folder and then edit the shortcut to say -mod HHF109B.big

you have to make a shortcut. The ico image is a custom shortcut icon for the mod you can choose to use at your leisure.
I dont know if anyone else is having this problem but i followed the install instructions and when i go to start the game up it pops up with a black screen with the message, "Unable to retrieve UI (animated) thumbnail Data:LevelData \Multiplayer\DefaultMapThumbnail.tga. Any ideas on what i should do? never had this problem with the older builds
DefaultMapThumbnail.tga is a core file and not part of the mod, so it looks like you may have a corrupted instal. Or it's not updated to version 1.1
For me the shortcut dont work :\ dunno what i do rong.And the old version makes my screen frease at the saying "Homefront" and the ships
